As you go through life, you hear people say, “In the end, all you really have left is other people.” And if you’ve been playing games since way back, you probably know that saying doesn’t just apply to real life—it’s true in games too.

Personally, I’ve never been very confident in my controls, so I don’t even really look at FPS games, and I usually lean more toward console games. But RPGs are different.

Because you need someone to talk through the content with (pick it apart, chew on it, and enjoy every bit of it).

It wasn’t always like that, of course. In an RPG, what matters at first is getting your gear together, leveling up, and chasing better drops. But those repetitive chores wear on you eventually, and sooner or later you burn out. That’s when you need a little room to breathe, and if you meet people in-game who are in the same boat, you end up having fun together—and getting even more immersed because of it.

Even the reason I started playing Mabinogi Mobile lately feels a little funny when I think about it. Some old Mabinogi game friends—people who are now real-life friends too—suggested we all meet up on the same server, revisit some memories, and play together again for the first time in ages.

But where did everyone disappear to now? ㅎ Real life swallowed them up, and before I knew it, I was having even more fun just hanging out with my current guildmates.

So what do we do together?

When new outfits come out, we take pictures

Sometimes we spend more time taking photos than actually playing

We play Mafia games too

We put on hanbok and play yutnori

But seriously, what is this thing where they set it up right out on the road so random people can barge in

Sometimes we bury guildmates and spit watermelon seeds

And really, if it’s Mabinogi, you have to gather up and enjoy a little concert together.

RPGs naturally give you a lot to do, but I think they’re the kind of games that become even more fun when you’re with friends.

These days, there are honestly more times when I log in to see my guildmates than to actually play. A chat game carried on through generations… is this really okay

In the end, I think what makes an online game stay with you for so long is people like that.

So yes—go play Mabinogi Mobile.
