MapleStory The Seed Floor 48 Rehabilitation Diary #무한동력
마빡도로시
Hello.
The keyword for this post is perpetual motion—that strangely addictive state where you keep finding yourself trying again and again.
For a while, I had been wanting to go back and rehab my way through The Seed Floor 48 practice and fully fill out The Seed’s [World Archive] investigation records, and since this happened to be a Test World week when I had some free time, I decided to give it a proper try.
Even without any real practical benefit, setting a goal I wanted for myself and practicing toward it was motivating in its own way, which made it fun. I would think, maybe I’ll stop after just this much—and then somehow end up doing more.
The benefits of reaching The Seed Floor 50???
To be honest, we are at the point where it almost feels easy to forget that content called The Seed even still exists. Objectively speaking, it is true that there is no major practical value left in it now. Even back when The Seed gave out special skill rings, the standard approach for most players was the 2-grade run (Floor 41), so clearing Floor 50 was never all that different in practical terms.
Even so, the <Dorothy Challenger> medal above used to be the representative reward, and personally I still think the look of it alone is attractive enough to count for something. Still, if Floor 50 is something you are considering solely for that, it can only fall down the priority list once you think about the time involved. In my case, though, I had already earned the medal in the past, finished all the related achievements, and completed the Monster Collection entry as well, so none of that was the reason this time.
So if you ask what I was doing it for at all, the answer is [World Archive]. To register it, you have to get past Floor 48 and reach Floors 49 and 50. Of course, I already knew all the contents from screenshots someone else had shown me, and it would be hard to call this practical merit either, but because I used to do it often and clear it without much trouble back then, it bothered me a little that I kept failing now, so I had been thinking for a while that I should come back and do it someday.
What about The Seed Floor 48?
As for The Seed Floor 48, it did an enormous amount of work in giving people the impression that The Seed was content you simply could not do. In truth, everything other than this stage is fairly manageable, and even in the past, if you were willing to put up with the hassle, I would not have called it difficult—but this one floor alone raised the threshold for Floor 50.
Looking at this screenshot, it may not seem like much, but this version was recreated through the simulator I will mention below, and the platforms you see here are completely transparent in the actual game—so you cannot see them at all.
On top of that, you have to escort Pleta as you go, so if you stay too far away for more than a certain amount of time, you are failed out. Unless you have the route memorized properly, clearing it is very difficult.
If you want to practice The Seed Floor 48..
First and foremost, you need to memorize the platform positions. In my case, I jotted them down in Notepad in a rough but recognizable way, like the image above, and kept it open beside me while I played. It is best to use whatever method lets you check things quickly for yourself.
As for actual in-game practice, The Seed does have practice tickets, but they only work up to Floor 39, so they cannot be used for this.
So the method people have used for a long time is to copy a character over to the Test World and practice there. When the Test World is open, like it is now, you can leave a character parked on Floor 45 on the live server, then later use the Bring Character to Test World function; as of now, you can copy up to 50 characters per world, and since deletion is possible once every 2 hours, you effectively have unlimited attempts.
In the past, every time you logged into a copied character, you had to set up your keybindings again, among other inconveniences, but it has been improved since then, so it is much more comfortable now.
The best option is, naturally, practicing in the Test World, where the feel is 100% identical, but when that is not available—or even when it is—this minigame is also extremely useful: https://maplestoryworlds.nexon.com/ko/play/e56ecba01f8f4699a237eefc90151e28/comment
It is an officially registered game on MapleStory Worlds, so there is nothing to worry about on that front, and beyond being extremely well made, it also includes floor-by-floor practice and position memory—things that are impossible in the actual game. It is excellent, and it helps a great deal.
Since this is not meant to be a full guide, I will stop short of going into more detail, but for anyone trying it for the first time, a few points that are useful to know would be:
for the 8th jump near the start of the 1st floor, if you do not defeat the beetle, you will not get far enough away from Pleta to be kicked out.
And if you fall at the end of the 1st floor, after defeating the beetles at the start of the 2nd floor beforehand,
then by walking back to the entrance and returning again, you can get close to Pleta while she is dealing with the beetle in the middle, which gives you one extra chance. That said, from that point on, failing the 8th jump becomes dangerous, and if you fall before reaching the middle of the 2nd floor, you are out.
Rehabilitation
The goal was to practice 15 times, then clear it in one go on the live server, but I failed more often than expected, so I ended up doing a bit more.
Floor 46 is the stage where you defeat 200 Wyverns, and Floor 47 is the one where you search for switches in the dark. That stretch is tedious, but as I mentioned, I had come in through character copy, so I found myself feeling grateful that at least I had not started all the way back from Floor 1 (roughly 40 minutes). Maybe it was simply because it had been so long, but practicing Floor 48 again was fun in and of itself.
After practicing like that, I went back to the live server once I felt confident, only to fail there too, and in the end I needed 2 more tries on the live server before finally clearing it on the last one. I was happier than I expected to be. And honestly, if I had not cleared it then, I had the feeling I would have kept going out of sheer stubbornness until I did, which made the success feel even more fortunate..
Goal achieved
Dorothy's Phantom can be registered on Floor 49, and “upsetting her temper” here refers to the dialogue option, “How am I supposed to get this right.” If you pick that, you are immediately thrown back to the lobby.
Floor 49 is the one where you answer monster silhouette questions. You pass by getting 5 correct, and if you miss one, 5 minutes are deducted from your remaining time.
The answer above is Ducky Family.
As for Dorothy, considering that she is currently non-damage-reduced, she only has 420 billion HP now, to the point that calling her a boss feels almost awkward.
Thank you for reading.
