[Mabinogi] The images and colors that come to mind whenever I think of Mabinogi~
슬기로운모험가
Hello, adventurer~!
Have you been enjoying a happy, wise life in Erinn?
When you think of Mabinogi’s “Erinn,” there’s probably a certain image, a certain feeling, that comes to mind.
You know... that something you just can’t quite find anywhere else~
As someone who’s experienced both Mabinogi and Mabinogi Mobile,
I wanted to talk a little about the image of Mabinogi that’s built up in my heart over time!
I’m curious how the Erinn I see
might differ from the Erinn felt by the adventurer reading this now
So please leave a comment and tell me what kind of image Mabinogi has for you, adventurer!

Mabinogi’s world, built on a particular mythology,
always feels so dreamy and mysterious to me
I also love that it isn’t only humans who appear, but gods and other special races too,
and the stories they go through are so fascinating
And then there’s magic and alchemy, which are such charming powers in their own right
They become the kind of devices that make you naturally accept all sorts of things in place of science
I think it’s especially romantic that all of this is passed down through the songs of bards~
That means all the countless things the adventurer experienced are passed on to the people in the game as legendary tales, right?

So then, shall we try putting the feeling Mabinogi gives into words?
You hear the voice of a god, get caught up in the battles of gods,
are called a hero, yet also become someone people fear,
meet enemies, but also come to find steadfast companions...
In some ways, it feels serious, heavy, and melancholy,
but in other ways, it very clearly holds something hopeful and bright too🤔
*I’ve gathered the image sources at the very bottom of the post*
Thinking carefully about the story elements I mentioned above,
I put together an image board for Mabinogi and Erinn
For the edits, I lowered the saturation just a little and adjusted the brightness,
but it was actually pretty hard to keep it from feeling too dark
Here’s why I chose each image!
First - Statue of Nike, goddess of victory
I picked it because the Nike statue’s broken wings and missing arms
somehow reminded me of the goddess Morrighan, seized by Cichol and unable to move!
Even aside from that, it also naturally brought to mind artwork depicting the form of a god
Since Mabinogi really does feature so many different gods, after all.
Second - An old, worn building
I chose it while thinking of Mabinogi’s great city of Tara,
or Mabinogi Mobile’s Emain Macha
My city that must be protected, or a village already destroyed along with its people...
A kingdom in danger, a king and knights asking an adventurer for help...
I can already see an entire story taking shape in my head🤩
Third - A forest with a giant tree in view
I went looking for an image that held that kind of nature-friendly feeling
It brought to mind forests, wide grasslands, towering trees, and fields of wildflowers in full bloom,
so I ended up choosing that photo and adding it to the image board
Fighting demon races in the forest,
subduing a giant beast that turned violent after being exposed to some sinister power,
or having spirits or fairies suddenly appear~
Isn’t that just the perfect background for an important story to unfold?

Fourth - Celtic patterns or knots
When you think of Mabinogi, you remember that pattern we see every day, right?
That shape that looks a little like a cross, and a little like a braid!
It’s definitely one of those images you just can’t leave out when talking about Mabinogi👍
If you look closely not only at that signature symbol, but also at the outfits worn by characters in Mabinogi,
you’ll probably spot all kinds of Celtic patterns in different shapes
Fifth - A Western-style pot or cauldron
It’s that pot you often see in Western works, with medicine or stew bubbling away inside~
It shows up when the protagonist and their companions stay at an inn in the story,
or when they light a campfire on the road and make a simple meal!
Or when some mysterious being or healer is brewing something medicinal, it appears there too~
I feel like it’s one of those tools you just can’t leave out of traditional fantasy
In Mabinogi Mobile too, you cook at campfires,
and before taking on dungeons and the like, you sit around the fire with your party members and share food together, right?
So naturally, that pot came to mind for me~
Sixth - A horse, companion of the journey
In Erinn, the protagonist travels all across so many places, solving problems along the way,
and if we’d had to do all of that on only our own two feet, we probably never could have managed so much
It’s because we had our own horse always by our side that it was possible!
While playing Mabinogi and Mabinogi Mobile,
every time I traveled across those vast, countless places, I really felt just how precious horses are
I even spent a long time choosing a name, so that says it all~
I’m curious what names everyone gave their travel companions
I’m sure you gave them lovely and wonderful names, adventurer😁
Since the image board alone felt a little too serious,
I also made a color board with the shades that come to mind when I think of Mabinogi and Erinn
If I were thinking only of the original Mabinogi, I’d probably want it a little redder, a little more orange, or a little lower in saturation,
but when I think of Mabinogi Mobile, this level of saturation feels just right
A grassy scene on a pleasantly sunlit afternoon~
Or Erinn in the dark of night or at dawn, when something suspicious is unfolding~
I chose them while painting those kinds of scenes in my mind, and how do they look to you, adventurer?
I’m curious what colors you’d pick if you were choosing a few yourself😁
As I was sorting out my thoughts on Mabinogi’s image,
all kinds of moments I’d experienced over the years came drifting back, and I found myself sinking into those memories once again
The memories I made with so many different adventurers came back so vividly too~
I hope this was also a little moment for the adventurer reading this
to look back on the good memories you made in Erinn
Then, until we meet again next time,
I’ll stop here for today!
Bye~🖐🖐🖐
