Did you know that NEXON offers several fonts for free?

I did.

What I did not realize was just how many there were...?

At the moment, they are offering as many as 10 fonts for free.

I would like to introduce a few of the ones I use most often.

I excluded Klavika NX at the top, since that one is a paid font.

For titles: NEXON Lv.1 Gothic

The first font I want to introduce is NEXON Lv.1 Gothic.

As you would expect from a “Gothic” font, it is very easy to read.

Because of that readability, it works well in a lot of places.

It is great as a title font, whether for the first slide of a PPT, a blog thumbnail, or a YouTube thumbnail.

There is also NEXON Lv.2 Gothic, but I personally prefer Lv.1 Gothic because it feels a bit wider and fuller.

For a cute feel: NEXON MapleStory & NEXON Bazzi

The MapleStory font has a rounded look that feels cute, but it is also surprisingly readable.

It works well for event announcements or card-style news graphics.

Like the NEXON Gothic fonts, it also works nicely for titles.

I sometimes want that rounded feel, so this is probably the second font I use most often.

I use Bazzi for a similar kind of feel. Compared with the MapleStory font, it has a slightly more flowing style.

Because it does not feel too stiff, it is good for emphasis or for more casual subtitles.

For dialogue: Mabi Old Style

The height of Mabinogi-style charm: Mabi Old Style.

In my opinion, Mabi Old Style suits subtitles and speech bubbles especially well.

This is for Mabinogi Mobile, but does it not already feel unmistakably like Mabinogi just from using Mabi Old Style?

I added this because it was frustrating watching them say nothing to each other. You two, please just talk!!!

But before that,

what is the most important thing to check before using a font?

It is copyright.

You should always check whether commercial use is allowed before using a font. (Especially on YouTube)

If you are not careful, you could end up in a legal dispute over copyright infringement.

There are different kinds of commercial use as well, so I recommend looking that up separately.

Q. Who owns the copyright to NEXON fonts?

A. All rights, including the intellectual property rights for all provided fonts, belong to NEXON Korea.

Q. Can I use NEXON fonts for commercial purposes?

A. The fonts are provided free of charge to all users, including both individuals and businesses, and may be freely used and distributed. (Commercial use is allowed) However, you may not arbitrarily modify or edit the font files and redistribute them.

Q. Do I have to indicate the source when using NEXON fonts?

A. Citing the source of the font is recommended.

*Printed materials and advertisements using the fonts (including online ones) may be used for NEXON’s promotions.

In short, NEXON fonts can be used commercially, so you may also use them for YouTube or advertising materials.

Since the copyright belongs to NEXON, that also means NEXON may use creative works I made with them.

Because source attribution for creative works is only recommended, you do not have to include it.
