For me, football games have always been about building a team with a bit of sentimental value, but with prices climbing lately, I've had little choice but to settle for a budget-friendly 24EP squad.

I spent my saved-up FC on a 26TOTY-related box and got lucky with Declan Rice, a key midfielder for Arsenal, who are currently top of the EPL this season! It wasn't a spectacular pull, but since I can't put together an Arsenal squad just yet, I'm reluctantly selling him and using the proceeds to build a Germany squad, a well-known choice for value.

Building a Germany squad on a slightly awkward BP budget

Most of my existing 24EP players were German, so I'll be keeping them and adding Brandt, who I pulled from a player pack, while spending the BP I have on a few players I've heard great things about.

I wanted to try Reus at CAM after using him as a cheap option before, so I added him in Squad Maker, then put Beckenbauer—Germany's answer to Gullit—in midfield, with Joshua Kimmich filling the remaining spot now that his +5 card has become a value option.

My all-24EP squad gave me a starting point for this Germany build, but I wanted to swap Henrichs for Rüdiger at centre-back, so I attempted an upgrade. It failed, and I only just managed to restore the card, but with a full 3-point gap in their overall ratings, I want to give both a run and see for myself who's better.

I still haven't bought Reus or Beckenbauer, and BP is pretty tight, so I'll be taking part in various events to save up as much as I can.

How to take part in events

The UI changes in FC Online have made claiming in-game rewards much easier. Collecting them used to be rather confusing, so it's been nice to finish playing, click Claim All whenever I have rewards waiting, and pick up FC as well as BP.

There's also a Zlatan event running on the web, with transfer fee coupons, BP, and a variety of player packs being handed out alongside the attendance event, making this a great opportunity to stock up.
