[MapleLand] New to MMORPGs? Please Read: A Guide to Netiquette #๊ฒ์ ์์

Hello,
Iโm Jaymer, a Nexon Picker ๐
MMORPGs are not really games you play alone. They are a genre built around playing alongside many other users.
That is why, rather than insisting on doing things only your own way, it is important to be considerate of others and follow basic in-game etiquette.
Today, Iโve put together a few MapleLand etiquette points that new players can easily overlook.
1. Do not steal hunting spots
In MapleLand, hunting grounds are shared by multiple users.
Because of that, if you see another user on the minimap, the unspoken rule is to switch channels.
If it is an area where party hunting is expected, it is best to ask first if there is room and join only after you are invited.
If you jump into a spot where someone is already hunting, it is usually seen as โstealing.โ
Taking a spot that someone worked hard to secure is naturally going to upset people.
Iโve experienced it a few times myself, and having to find another place is inconvenient. More than that, it simply leaves a bad feeling.
Some people will say, โThis spot is taken,โ when it happens, while many others simply move elsewhere without saying anything.
To avoid unnecessary disputes, it is a good habit to switch channels first whenever you see someone in a hunting area.
Quick etiquette tips for party hunting
-
If you can no longer continue, let the party know before leaving
-
If you need to step away for a moment, say so in advance and AFK on another map
-
If you are going to a general store or heading back to town, leave a quick note in party chat
-
If a party member still has time left on their EXP coupon, keep hunting together until it expires
2. Do not โfame drop and runโ
MapleStory has a โPopularityโ system.
Each character has a Popularity value, and once per day you can raise or lower another userโs Popularity.
Usually, players raise the Popularity of users who helped them or who they appreciated.
Because of that, Popularity naturally ends up being seen as a rough measure of that characterโs manners.
You can also raise Popularity by completing quests!
On the other hand, if someone behaves in a clearly inconsiderate way, their Popularity may be lowered for that reason as well.
It does not directly affect combat power,
but many players still consider it important because high Popularity can make someone seem like an experienced player.
In fact, you can even occasionally see Popularity being traded for mesos.
Because of this, you should avoid abusing the system by lowering a strangerโs Popularity for no reason and then running off.
It only leaves the other person feeling bad.
That said, if someone stole a hunting spot or was clearly behaving badly, lowering their Popularity is understandable.
3. Always keep your promises
In MapleLand, players often make agreements with one another over trading, party hunting, boss content, and more.
Even if you have never met in person, it is still important to maintain basic trust.
For example, if you agree to exchange Popularity,
you should never accept yours and then leave without giving it back.
Community spaces are quite active these days, so this kind of behavior can end up being publicly called out. Be careful!
That covers a few useful etiquette points to know in MapleLand.
Even knowing just these basics will make your time in the game much more comfortable and enjoyable.
You can pick up the rest naturally as you play, so there is no need to feel too pressured.
