Hunting and boss content are important for growing your character,

but sometimes there’s a special kind of fun in taking your time, exploring the map, and collecting things too.

Today, I’d like to introduce one collection feature that really matches my taste: Monster Collection! #밍글링

What Is Monster Collection?

Monster Collection (hereafter, MonCol) is a system where you defeat the various monsters found throughout MapleStory

and register them in your collection book at a certain chance.

Whenever you complete a certain line, you can send out a “Monster Expedition,”

and the mileage rewards you get from it are quite nice.

Monster types are broadly divided into normal monsters, boss monsters, elite monsters, elite bosses, and special monsters that can only be registered through Momong.

As you can see, each type has its own star rating.

Since elite monsters and elite bosses are hard to summon, they feel more difficult to register than normal monsters.

That extra difficulty really makes them feel worth challenging!

You can also earn medals by registering a certain number of monsters in each region,

and you can receive Cube Chairs as rewards too.

I had registered a total of 440 monsters on the Scania server,

but now I’ve transferred to the Bera server and started over from the beginning.

It turns out your MonCol count doesn’t transfer.. ㅠ^ㅠ

As of last month, I was still at 200 monsters, but now I’ve reached 300.

I love collection content, so I’ve been enjoying it a lot!

I think you’d really enjoy focusing on Monster Collection in MapleStory as well.

What Are the MonCol Registration Rates?

Monsters under level 100 are relatively easy to register. It usually takes about 1 to 20 minutes.

After level 100, though, the registration rate drops.

In my experience, I needed to hunt around 20 minutes to 1 hour per monster.

Especially once you get into Arcane River hunting maps, it feels like you need to set aside about 1 to 2 hours.

That said, bosses and elite monsters, which are harder to encounter in the first place, tend to have slightly better odds.

Bosses especially seem to register naturally over time if you keep defeating them every week.

Tips for Registering MonCol

Let me share a few helpful MonCol tips too!

If you level the Adventurer Archer Link Skill “Adventurer Curious” up to level 6,

you can increase the MonCol registration rate by 35%.

You’ll need to raise Bowmaster, Marksman, and Pathfinder.

From time to time, Sunday Maple also runs a MonCol +100% event.

If you’ve been meaning to work on MonCol but kept putting it off because it felt like a hassle, it might be a good idea to wait for a Sunday Maple period!

You can also raise the MonCol registration rate with the Tonic buff,

so if you enjoy MonCol, I’d recommend prioritizing that upgrade.

The fact that it’s included in the Tonic buff shows it’s a piece of content the game does give some attention to(?)

If you use “Mysterious Momong” from the Coin Shop,

you can register one of the monsters in Monster Collection, so that’s another useful option to keep in mind!

If you’re lucky, you might even register a 5-star monster!

However, if it’s a monster you’ve already registered, you’ll receive an Advanced Exploration Box instead.
