Grinding and taking on bosses are important for character progression,

but there's also plenty of fun in slowing down, exploring maps, and collecting things along the way.

Today, I'd like to introduce a collection feature that's right up my alley: Monster Collection! #밍글링

What Is Monster Collection?

Monster Collection is a system where defeating the various monsters in MapleStory

gives you a chance to register them in your collection.

Each time you complete a qualifying row, you can send monsters out on an exploration,

and the Reward Points you earn can really add up.

Monsters fall into a few broad categories: regular monsters, boss monsters, Elite Monsters, Elite Bosses, and special monsters that can only be registered through Monsterblooms.

As you can see, monsters have star ratings based on their type.

Elite Monsters and Elite Bosses are difficult to summon, so they seem harder to register than regular monsters.

Having some tougher monsters to collect makes the challenge all the more appealing to me!

You can also earn medals by registering a certain number of monsters in each region,

and pick up Cube Chairs as rewards, too.

I registered a total of 440 monsters on the Scania server,

but I've since transferred to Bera, so I'm starting over from scratch.

It turns out your Monster Collection progress doesn't transfer.. ㅠ^ㅠ

Just last month, I was at 200 monsters, but now I've reached 300.

I love collecting things, so I've been having a great time!

What Are the Registration Chances?

Monsters at level 100 or below are relatively easy to register. In my experience, it takes 1–20 minutes.

For monsters above level 100, though, the registration chance drops.

I've found that each entry takes around 20 minutes to 1 hour of grinding.

Once you reach the hunting maps in Arcane River, it feels like you need to set aside about 1–2 hours.

Bosses and Elite Monsters are harder to encounter, but their registration chances are somewhat higher.

I've found that bosses in particular tend to get registered naturally as I defeat them each week.

Monster Collection Tips

Here are a few handy tips for building your Monster Collection!

With the Explorer Bowman's Link Skill, "Adventurer Curiosity," active at level 6,

you can increase your Monster Collection registration chance by 35%.

You'll need to level up a Bowmaster, Marksman, and Pathfinder.

Occasionally, Sunny Sunday events offer a 100% increase to Monster Collection registration chances.

If you've been meaning to work on your collection but keep putting it off because it feels like a chore, a Sunny Sunday event could be a great time to jump in!

Tonic buffs can also increase your Monster Collection registration chance,

so if you're a collector, consider prioritizing those upgrades.

It even has a tonic buff, so Monster Collection seems to be getting a little encouragement(?) from the game.

Using a "Mysterious Monsterbloom" from the Coin Shop

lets you register one of the monsters in Monster Collection, so these are worth using!

If you're lucky, you might even register a 5-star monster!

If the monster is already registered, though, you'll receive a Substantial Exploration Box instead.
