[MapleStory] Picking the Perfect In-Game Name! From Two-Character Name Ideas to 뉴네임 옥션

Hellooo~ (˶ˊꇴˋو(و ⁾⁾

It's your Nexon Picker, 달냥!

Picking a nickname when you start a new game takes way longer than you'd expect, doesn't it?

And there goes 10 minutes just picking a name..ㅎ;

MapleStory was my first game, so I've always leaned toward short, easy-to-remember two-character names

when picking a nickname. Of course... you know how fierce the competition for two-character names is everywhere..ㅠㅜ

When leveling multiple characters, I'd sometimes just give their names the same final character to tie them all together.

Once I pick a name, I'm sticking with it for ages, so I end up putting as much thought into it as my character's appearance.

But in MapleStory, so many of the nicknames you like are already taken.

Darn it..!

I've even bought a nickname through the New Name Auction myself to get one I wanted.

└ Yep, I wanted it that badly.

Today, I'm sharing two-character nickname ideas for MapleStory, my own naming tips,

and how to use the New Name Auction.

1. Two-Character Nickname Ideas and Naming Tips

Two-character nicknames are the big favorite in MapleStory, right?

And that's why names like 녜힁 have become so common, too...

Two-character nicknames are short and easy to remember,

plus they look nice and tidy above your character's head. No wonder so many players prefer them!

The prettier the word, though, the more likely someone else has already snapped it up.

Instead of typing in every word that pops into your head, I'd recommend settling on the vibe you want first.

|| Two-Character Nickname Ideas by Vibe ||

Vibe

Nickname Examples

Cute and lovable

모아, 루아, 설아, 도아

Sentimental and poetic

노을, 새벽, 이슬, 여울

Dreamy and mysterious

유월, 서리, 달빛, 설화

Nature and seasons

봄비, 꽃잎, 단풍, 겨울

Cozy and gentle

달봄, 은별, 나봄, 소담

※ These are just examples to get the ideas flowing. You'll need to check whether they're available in-game. (Though there's a pretty high chance they're all taken.. ㅎ.. ㅋ..ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ)

Personally, I think choosing a name that matches your character's class or outfit vibe

is a good way to go, too.

└ Not that we aren't already trying to do that...

For example, a calm, mysterious character would suit poetic words

like '새벽' or '서리'. And if cute outfits are your thing, a soft-sounding name

like '모아' or '루아' could be a nice fit, right?

If you can't find a two-character nickname you like, try tweaking the words a little.

Even with the same meaning, different character combinations can give a name a totally different vibe.

2. Why Matching the Last Character Works

One trick I've used for my MapleStory nicknames is ending them all with the same character.

└ A pretty chaotic bunch of matching nicknames..;

In MapleStory, you end up leveling plenty of characters besides your main for Legion, Link Skills, and all that, right?

You can give each one a totally different name, but matching the last character makes them feel like a set. There's something fun about that!

For example, if you chose '봄' as the last character, you could put together names like these:

Shared Character

Nickname Examples

봄

달미봄, 꽃랑봄, 별해봄

월

하유월, 소을월, 연비월

별

은별, 새별, 달별

린

하린, 서린, 아린

They start differently, but that shared ending somehow makes them feel like they belong together, doesn't it? ㅎㅎ

I've used matching endings for my own nicknames like this before.

I loved how the names made my characters feel connected, even with different classes and outfits.

If you're planning to keep leveling multiple characters, especially,

I'd recommend picking a shared character for their names right from the start.

Of course, plenty of names might already be taken, so it helps to have a few backups ready!

3. Can't Get the Nickname You Want? New Name Auction

It's such a letdown to put all that thought into a nickname, only to find out it's taken.

Especially when you've found a two-character name you absolutely love. That's a hard one to let go of!

For players in that situation, MapleStory has 'New Name Auction', an event.

The New Name Auction lets players list their character names

so other players can bid on them.

I've actually bought a nickname through the New Name Auction myself~

Making up your own name is great, but being able to buy the one you want from another player

is one of MapleStory's unique features, too. (Legally buying and selling nicknames for money.. ㅋ..)

|| How to Use the New Name Auction ||

The New Name Auction isn't a year-round marketplace. It's an event that only runs during specific periods.

The most recent one, the summer 2026 New Name Auction, ran from June 25 to July 15.

Here's how it worked that time:

  1. During the event, select 'New Name Auction' from the event list or
visit NPC 미스터 뉴네임 in a major town.

  1. Search for the character name you want to see if anyone has listed it for sale.

  1. Check the current bid and time remaining, then place your bid with Maple Points.

  1. The highest bidder wins when the auction ends and must claim the name within the stated period.

There are a few things to keep in mind when buying and selling names, though:

What to Check

Details

Availability

Trading is only available during the event

Trading currency

Maple Points

PC requirements

Selling and bidding are available on a Green PC

Winning the auction

The highest bidder wins when the auction ends

Things to note

You can't cancel a bid just because you changed your mind

Above all, make sure to double-check the price and nickname before bidding.

A nickname being short and popular doesn't mean you have to pay a fortune for it!

Take some time to think about whether it's really a name you'll use for ages,

and whether you're comfortable spending that many Maple Points on it.

If the New Name Auction opens again, you could keep an eye out for a nickname you've been wanting.

That's another option to consider!

Wrapping Up

A gaming nickname might just be a way to tell characters apart,

but the longer you play, the more attached you get to it.

Especially in a game like MapleStory, where you level multiple characters,

giving your nicknames a similar vibe or a shared character is enough to show off your own personality.

If you're stuck on a nickname, I'd start with a vibe you like,

then play around with two-character word combinations.

Or try matching the last character like I do!

More than picking a name that's popular with everyone else,

I think what really matters is choosing a nickname you love and want to use for a long time.

That's all for this post!

I'll be back next time with more gaming talk.
