Party Play Etiquette

Unlike MOBAs, RPGs often require you to team up with other players in a party.

In MapleStory, the game I play, boss parties are common. With so many players and such a wide range of personalities, I have seen plenty of disputes over party play.

I play solo and do not join boss parties, so I have not experienced these issues firsthand. I have, however, seen plenty of callout posts in the community.

With those posts in mind, I will go over some etiquette to follow when playing in a party.

◆ Be on Time for Boss Parties

When playing in a party, being on time is arguably the most important thing.

Players should remember that other people's time is just as valuable as their own.

◆ Share Boss Rewards Properly

Bosses drop all sorts of sought-after items, but those rewards do not always get shared.

Quite a few inconsiderate players keep everything for themselves.

Players who do this often get publicly called out in the community. They may find themselves unable to join a guild, or have to join one known for bad behavior just to use guild skills. I sometimes see players earn that reputation over low-value boss rewards. The damage to their reputation costs them more than they gain by keeping the loot, so I do not understand why they do it.

◆ Give Advance Notice If You Cannot Make a Boss Run or Plan to Leave the Party

Unless something unexpected prevents you from making a boss run or forces you to leave the party,

I think the polite thing to do is give a week's notice.

To me, these are the basic rules of etiquette for party play.

I am curious what other players would add to the list.
