An Embarrassing Mistake from My Early MapleStory Days: Why I Let Over 10 뚱성비 Go to Waste

This post was created as part of Nexon's PEAK activities.

Hello!

I'm 피스타임, a Nexon PEAK creator.

One of the mistakes I regret most from my early days in MapleStory was letting over 10 Ultimate Legion Growth Potions expire. I'd worked hard to earn them by leveling Ren to 280. Losing those rewards—and the chance to level my Legion characters with ease—still sticks with me.

Today, I'll share that beginner mistake: claiming rewards but failing to make full use of them. I'll also go over what you should always check when claiming event items.

1. The 20 Big Growth Potions I Earned on the Challengers Server

I first started playing on MapleStory's regular servers when Ren was released. I had nothing established there, so I decided to make Ren my main on the Challengers server and build from there.

Starting fresh, I set my sights on reaching level 280, achieving Challengers Diamond, and earning the Ultimate Legion Growth Potions.

These items are commonly nicknamed “big growth potions.” They can instantly take a character from level 1 to 200, making them a welcome reward for me as I worked on building up my Legion.

After about two months of leveling, I reached level 280 and Diamond. I also received 20 big growth potions, so I figured I could use them gradually to help build up my Legion.

There was one thing I hadn't considered, though: the items' expiration dates.

2. Why I Lost My Big Growth Potions

The daily character creation limit has since been removed, but back then, you could only create 3 characters a day. I started spreading the rewards out over several days, creating 3 characters at a time and using big growth potions on them.

It wasn't as though I'd left them untouched from the start. I had used some, and I just needed to keep doing the same with the rest.

The problem was that, somewhere along the way, I forgot about the remaining big growth potions. I'd already reached my leveling goal on the Challengers server, so I stopped logging in, and time slipped by. In the end, over 10 big growth potions expired before I could use them.

The consequences caught up with me a year later, when I returned to MapleStory in the summer of 2026. I'd geared up Ren, but my Legion level was so low that I struggled with higher-tier bosses.

Gear matters in MapleStory, but the progression systems behind it are just as important. Big growth potions have made building up Legion much easier, but because I'd let mine go to waste, I was practically back to being a new player.

Looking back, it was such an avoidable beginner mistake. I'd put so much effort into leveling Ren to 280, only to leave some of those hard-earned rewards unused.

Still, that experience seems to have taught me a lesson: I didn't repeat the mistake when leveling 레테 in 2026. I used every big growth potion I earned while leveling 레테 on the Challengers server. With the character creation limit gone, I had no trouble using all the potions in one go.

My Legion level is currently 8,173. I managed to get past 8,000, a milestone that offers good value for the effort, but I still regret wasting those big growth potions. If I'd used them all back then, my Legion level could be higher now.

3. Check Claim Deadlines and Expiration Dates for Event Rewards

After that experience, my advice to new players is simple: remember to both claim your rewards and use them.

Even if you put plenty of effort into an event and claim its rewards, they won't help you level your characters if you let them expire like I did. If you plan to split them across several characters, it's especially worth deciding which characters will use them and when.

What to Check

Why It Matters

Reward claim deadline

You can miss out entirely on rewards that must be claimed manually within a set period

Item expiration date

Even items you've already claimed can expire before you use them

Which characters will use the items and any requirements

You may not meet the requirements when you try to use the items

How many are left and when you plan to use them

Using rewards over several days makes it easy to forget what's left

That was one of my more embarrassing mistakes as a MapleStory beginner. Even now, losing over half the rewards I'd worked so hard to earn feels like such a waste.

If you have any event items you've already claimed, take a moment to check their expiration dates. I hope you can avoid putting in all that effort only to miss out on the rewards, as I did.
