The Stories We’ve Been Walking Past in Emain Macha: 3 Easily Missed Quests

This post was created as part of Nexon PEAK activities.

Mabinogi Mobile has quests you can stumble upon while wandering around town. There is a quiet pleasure in seeking them out: something new unfolds in a familiar spot, or you learn the story of a character you once knew only by name.

One notable hidden quest is “Finding the Imp’s Marbles.” It begins when you discover marbles scattered around town, so you may come across it naturally while doing something else.

Finishing it, though, was not quite so effortless. There were so many marbles to find that I felt as though I was combing the entire map, and the search took a long time.

It was a struggle at the time, but looking back, the quest had a certain charm. After focusing only on activities that helped me progress, there I was, exploring every corner of town just to find a marble. Perhaps the less productive and efficient an activity is, the closer it comes to play in its purest form.

Emain Macha has hidden quests too. Apparently, they sometimes appear in the side quest list. Otherwise, you need to visit particular places or NPCs to discover these hidden stories.

Back to the Animal Ranch

You can begin “Back to the Animal Ranch” by visiting the ranch keeper near the healer’s house where Agnes is in Emain Macha.

The quest involves bringing back animals that have escaped from the ranch for some reason. At first, I expected a straightforward search for the scattered animals, but along the way, I found a more endearing scene than I had anticipated.

The animals all gathered behind me and followed along. With several of them moving together, rather than just one or two, I felt as though I was leading a little animal procession through town. That sight was what stayed with me most from this quest. A story does not need a complicated plot for a single scene to linger in your memory.

The Watch Thief

You can begin “The Watch Thief” by visiting 윌리엄 경 at the 5 o’clock position in Emain Macha. Look along the outer wall of the building beside the processing workshop, and he should be easy to find.

윌리엄 경 asks you to find his stolen pocket watch. But 바니 claims the watch is a cherished keepsake left to him by someone who has passed away. I had expected simply to find a missing item; instead, I found myself wondering who I should return it to.

Later, you happen upon the pocket watch lying on the ground and must choose whether to give it to 윌리엄 경 or 바니.

As a matter of principle, I probably should have returned it to 윌리엄 경, who had asked me to find it. Still, I thought it might be all right to take someone’s story on trust, at least in a game, so I handed it to 바니.

The story about the keepsake turned out to be a lie. 바니 reveals that the watch had belonged to Price.

A touching story is not necessarily a true one, it seems. Because I had made my choice in good faith, believing 바니, the twist stayed with me all the more.

Luck Is Not Far Away

You can begin “Luck Is Not Far Away” by visiting 징크스 소년 at the fountain in Emain Macha Square.

The boy asks you to help him find a lucky calico cat. He seems to believe that seeing it will bring him good luck, and as the story unfolds, you learn why.

The cat the boy saw had no special powers; it was an ordinary calico. The first time he saw it, he happened to find a coin and took that lucky discovery as a sign that the cat had brought him good fortune.

The boy is deeply disappointed when he learns the truth. To lift his spirits, your next task is to make him some lucky potato soup.

The story then turns to a warm bowl of food. It made me reflect that meeting a special cat or finding money by chance are not the only forms good fortune can take.

There is good fortune, too, in a warm meal someone has made for you. The ending brought the meaning of the quest’s title, “Luck Is Not Far Away,” into focus.

Closing Thoughts

Compared with Finding the Imp’s Marbles, the three quests I encountered in Emain Macha took little effort to complete. Bringing the animals back, deciding who should receive the watch, and making soup for a disappointed boy each left a different impression.

I particularly enjoyed the sense of stumbling upon an unfolding story in town. Discovering that the characters I routinely passed had stories of their own made familiar surroundings feel a little different.

If you are curious about the quests that are easy to miss in Mabinogi Mobile, try straying for a moment from your usual routes for daily or weekly missions. An alley you have never explored may hold a story you have yet to hear.
