This post was created as part of Nexon's PEAK activities.
Hello.
Quests still play a major role in MapleStory's storytelling, but they have become much less central to its gameplay systems. If you want to progress quickly, especially as a new player, you may be wondering, “Will I have to sit through lots of unskippable cutscenes?” The answer is no.
Still, new players should know a few things about quests, particularly the so-called “길뚫” (access-unlock) quests. This guide covers the essentials.
Do I need to complete every area's unlock quests?
In short, you do not need to play through area entry quests, except for 기어드락 (295), the highest-level area as of this writing.

Area unlock quests are essential for the following reasons.
-
Completing them unlocks access to the area
-
Completing them awards the area's Symbol (Arcane/Sacred/Grand Sacred)
-
Completing them unlocks daily quests that award Symbols
-
For Reverse City, Yum Yum Island, and Sellas, they increase Symbol rewards
-
For Tenebris (Moonbridge/Labyrinth of Suffering/Limina), they only award EXP
Starting at level 200, a new town becomes available every 5 levels. Across Arcane River and Grandis, that adds up to a substantial number of area quests, which used to be quite a burden.

An earlier update let you skip an area's quests if you had already completed them on your account. Now, you can skip them even if you have never completed them before, with the exception of 기어드락, the highest-level area.

If you would like to watch the story later, you can replay it from beginning to end in [Grand Athenaeum], which focuses on story content.

Some quests, including the one before entering Arcane River, launch straight into cutscenes without asking whether you want to skip them. Unless the cutscene is very short, there is usually a SKIP button in the top-right corner of the screen. Press it to skip ahead immediately.
Do I need to complete every boss's unlock quests?

Here are a few points worth noting.
1) Completing a boss's entry questline once unlocks access for every character on your Maple ID.
Currently, bosses with separate entry quests are those at or below Chaos Papulatus in difficulty. You only need to complete these questlines once for the completion to count for all your characters.
Ongoing updates have made these questlines easier, and most now take around 20 minutes at most, so they are not a major time commitment. If you set aside time to work through them, the Premium Teleport World Map feature makes the process much smoother.

The quests are listed in the table above, and you can also find them in the Boss UI.

Click the light bulb on the left side of the screen and select the relevant quests from the Main category. You will need to uncheck “Show Recommended Quests” to see them.
One important warning: [Silent Crusade] A Mysterious Letter is a story quest completely unrelated to Arkarium. Skip this one unless you want to experience the story.
2) Ramuramu Temple quest completion is not shared
Access to Guardian Angel Slime is shared, but to buy a Dawn Guardian Angel Ring Scroll, you must complete the entire Ramuramu story on the character making the purchase. This may be improved at some point.
3) For Arcane River and beyond, you essentially just need to reach the required level

As mentioned earlier, you can skip area quests everywhere except the highest-level area. This means you can access bosses in Arcane River and Grandis simply by reaching the required level.
I've heard the Alliance / Echo / Empress's Blessing quests are essential. What are they?
These 3 skills provide core stat boosts and are unlocked through specific quests. The quests are straightforward and the benefits are substantial, making these skills essential pickups.

First, Will of the Alliance (Alliance) is a passive skill that grants 5 to Attack Power, Magic ATT, and All Stats.

You can unlock this skill by completing quests with the [Alliance] prefix in the Quest Notifier.

The story varies by class, but you receive the skill when the Alliance quests take you into this Alliance meeting hall.

Next, Echo of Hero (Echo) is an active skill that boosts Attack Power and Magic ATT for you and nearby characters by a substantial 4%. With its current 5-minute cooldown and 40-minute duration, you can keep it active at all times.
This skill's name varies by class group. The original version, introduced for Explorers, is called Echo of Hero, so these skills are commonly known as Echo-type skills.

(For Kinesis)
To unlock this skill, complete quests listed under [Job] or carrying that prefix in the Quest Notifier. The steps vary by class, but most of these quests are dialogue-only. You can start them at level 200.
For classes such as Hoyoung and Adele, earlier story quests that grant stats may be prerequisites. If no job quest appears, or you finish it without receiving the skill, search for “class name + Echo quest” to check the steps for your class.
Here are the skill names for each class group.
|
Skill Name |
Class Group |
|---|---|
|
Echo of Hero |
Explorers/Cygnus Knights/Heroes/Resistance/Kinesis |
|
Exclusive Spell |
Adele/Nova/Illium/Ark/Khali/Anima |
|
Intensive Time |
Zero |
|
Undying Ember |
레테 |

Finally, Empress's Blessing (Empress) provides passive Attack Power and Magic ATT bonuses as you level a Cygnus Knight character. These bonuses apply to all other characters in the same world.

Leveling alone raises this skill to level 24, with no extra steps required. The important part is that you can then raise its master level to 30 by completing the Noble Mind quests from Neinheart.

You can finish the entire questline once your Cygnus Knight reaches level 150. All the quests are dialogue-only, so they are quick to complete.

This effect also applies in Challenger World. Unless anything changes, leveling a Cygnus Knight to 150 there will give you access to a bonus of 30 to Attack Power and Magic ATT.
Root Abyss: Chaos Vellum Crusher and King of the Root
Finally, a few quests can become inconvenient to complete if you miss the right moment, especially in Challenger World. After entering Root Abyss, accept all the quests shown below in the Quest Notifier before defeating the four Chaos bosses.

Each quest rewards you with a medal named after its boss for defeating that boss once. Kills do not count retroactively, so accept the quests before fighting the bosses.

Of these rewards, the Chaos Vellum Crusher medal has useful stats unless you have an alternative such as an MVP medal or a special medal.

After collecting all 4 medals, you can also obtain the title shown above.

This title offers useful stats when event titles such as Holy Pink Beanity are not available. If you plan to defeat all 4 Root Abyss bosses anyway, it is worth picking up early.
Getting these rewards early is especially worthwhile because the quests cannot be completed in Practice Mode. Since weekly boss kills were capped at 12 per week, these four bosses tend to leave your weekly rotation quickly, even in Challenger World.
As noted above, whether these rewards are worth pursuing depends on whether you already have an MVP medal, an event title, or a similar alternative. Keep them in mind if they would be useful to you.
Thank you for reading.
