Hello.
Games offer practice modes tailored to their gameplay. When you are starting out or attempting new content, the quality of the official practice mode can make a significant difference to how smoothly the experience goes.
In this post, I look at the practice modes in FC ONLINE and MapleStory—Nexon games in different genres that each offer useful ways for players to practice.
Practice Mode in FC ONLINE

You can access FC ONLINE's practice mode by selecting Basic Training under the Play Guide tab on the main screen.

Precise control is important in this type of game, and the practice mode provides detailed drills covering movement and a range of other actions. The available drills are listed below.

I knew precise control was important in this game, but the sheer variety of drills made me wonder whether it was more difficult than I had expected.

Each category offers relevant drills with clearly stated targets, giving you the guidance you need to practice thoroughly. For new players, working through the tutorial and these drills seems like a useful way to build a foundation in the basics.
Practice Mode in MapleStory

MapleStory offers a practice mode for boss battles. It previously had room for improvement, but recent changes—particularly the addition of phase-specific practice—mean it now offers almost everything you could expect from a practice mode. Buff consumables can be quite costly, so unlimited attempts without spending resources are especially helpful when taking on a new boss.

To open the Practice Mode window, click the Practice Mode button in the Boss UI.

When you first open Practice Mode, no options are selected. Even after checking Use Selected Buffs,
you still need to click each buff as shown here for it to take effect during practice mode battles.
Most buffs here are available without restrictions, but the following require you to meet certain conditions.
|
Buff Name |
Requirements |
Notes |
|---|---|---|
|
Noblesse Guild Skills |
Must belong to a guild that has Noblesse Guild Skills |
Applied at your guild's Noblesse Guild Skill levels |
|
Weapon Tempering Skill |
Must be a Master Craftsman or higher in Smithing |
|
|
Advanced Weapon Tempering Skill |
Must be a Meister or higher in Smithing |

Availability depends on the Champion Raid score earned this month |
|
Champion's Blessing (Stage 2) |
This month's Champion Raid score: 20,000 points or more |
|
|
Champion's Blessing (Stage 3) |
This month's Champion Raid score: 30,000 points or more |
|
|
Champion's Blessing (Stage 4) |
This month's Champion Raid score: 45,000 points or more |
|
|
Champion's Blessing (Stage 5) |
This month's Champion Raid score: 60,000 points or more |
The remaining buffs have no restrictions, so you can enable them all. Legion's Might is available even in Challenger World, where you cannot participate in Legion content. You can also use VIP buffs during periods when they cannot be obtained.

However, the list leaves out some buff items used by players at the forefront of progression. These are rewards from higher-tier bosses or map-wide buff items that are no longer obtainable.

You can practice an individual phase if you have previously reached it in regular mode.
Keep in mind that entering practice mode removes any buffs you have already applied. After practicing, you might use buff consumables for a regular attempt, then enter through the UI without noticing that Practice Mode is still checked. This will remove those buffs, so be sure to check the setting before entering.
Clearing a boss in practice mode does not grant any rewards, but it can count toward certain events or other content. This can be useful for progression, as the following overview shows.
|
Event or Content Name |
Can Be Completed in Practice Mode |
|---|---|
|
[Challenger World] Boss Missions |
Yes |
|
[Item Burning PLUS] Boss Missions |
Yes |
|
[Genesis Pass PLUS] Boss Missions |
No |
|
[Legion Champion Assessment] |
Yes |
|
[Weapon Liberation Quests (Genesis&Destiny)] Boss Missions |
Yes |
|
[Weapon Liberation Quests (Genesis&Destiny)] Obtaining Traces |
No |
These are some notable examples. The completion rules are fairly generous, with practice mode clears counting in most cases. Taking advantage of this can make progression a little easier.
For example, Challenger World runs Item Burning alongside its own boss missions, which award points toward rank upgrades when you clear bosses. Both sets of missions can be completed in practice mode. Players can therefore clear bosses in practice mode first, improve their stats through equipment and rank upgrades, and then clear them in regular mode.
If you accidentally clear a boss on a lower difficulty in regular mode, you can also use practice mode to complete the event missions.
This information is based on the most recent event, so check whether practice mode clears count when participating in future events.
Thank you for reading.
