My Hardest-Won Achievement in MapleStory: The Journey to the Dorothy Challenger Medal

Hello!
I'm 피스타임, a Nexon PEAK creator.

The hardest medal I have ever earned in MapleStory is Dorothy Challenger. Earning it requires clearing all 50 floors of The Seed, including some difficult jump quests. A failed attempt also means spending a considerable amount of time climbing back to the same spot.
As of October 2026, the completion rate for the related achievement, “[The Seed] So You've Finally Made It This Far,” is 0.26%. It was 0.23% when I first completed it in 2023. Even after all this time, it remains an achievement that very few players have earned.
Today, I'll share how I went from playing The Seed for its rings to earning Dorothy Challenger, and how I overcame the most difficult sections along the way.

1. Starting The Seed for Seed Rings

I first became seriously invested in MapleStory just before the Reboot servers started gaining attention. Those servers have since been restructured into the Eos and Helios servers.
At the time, Reboot did not allow trading with other players, so self-sufficiency was essential: you had to obtain all the equipment you needed yourself. One item I particularly wanted was a Level 4 Ring of Restraint, commonly called “RoR 4.”

Today, you can get Seed rings from ring boxes awarded for defeating bosses, but back then, they were only available in The Seed. That is also where the name “Seed rings” comes from. Since I could not buy them from other players on Reboot, I had to play The Seed myself.

The easiest way to think of The Seed is as a minigame tower with 50 floors. Each floor has a different task to complete. Some involve fighting monsters, while others feature jump quests, quizzes, or memory challenges.
Understanding the rules is important, but some sections require you to adapt as you go, while others demand precise jumps and timing. A strong character alone would not make every floor easy to clear.
2. From Rank 2 Runs to Pursuing Dorothy Challenger

At first, I worked my way up one floor at a time, reading guides on 나무위키 and watching walkthroughs on YouTube. My biggest early struggle was the cloud jump quest on floor 22. Knowing where to jump and actually making those jumps turned out to be two different things.

With repeated practice, I became more comfortable with floor 22. Unlocking more Hazy Stone slots also gave me more time to work with, and the runs gradually became manageable. Then, on January 25, 2023, I completed my first Rank 2 run.
A Rank 2 run means clearing through floor 41 to receive a Rank 2 box. At the time, I had heard that these runs were an efficient way to aim for a Ring of Restraint, so I mainly repeated them to obtain Seed rings.
Of course, becoming comfortable with the runs did not make them quick. I sometimes did five runs a day, each taking over 30 minutes. Looking back, I think I was even more immersed in MapleStory then than I am now.

While repeating those runs for Seed rings, I learned about a medal called Dorothy Challenger. Its stats appealed to me at the time, but more than anything, I liked what it represented: conquering The Seed's final floor.
I was also curious about what awaited me at the top, since I always stopped at the same point in the tower. That curiosity led me to move beyond farming boxes and attempt to clear floor 50.
3. The Biggest Hurdle: Floor 48's Invisible Jump Quest

I initially expected to get stuck as soon as I reached floor 42. By following the guides, though, I made it to floor 47 more easily than I had expected. The real problem came next.

That was the notorious invisible jump quest on floor 48. Navigating platforms you can barely see is difficult enough, but here you also have to stay alongside the NPC Fleta. Moving too far ahead or falling and becoming separated from Fleta can cause you to fail. On top of that, you have to watch out for monsters and incoming throwing stars.

I even recorded my first attempt, only to fall near the beginning and end the run almost as soon as it began. I made it back several more times, but kept failing at the throwing stars in the final three-tier section.
The hardest part was how long it took to get another attempt at the section where I had failed. Falling on floor 48 did not mean I could simply retry it on the spot. Spending all that time climbing back, only to fall in the same place again, was genuinely discouraging.

What really helped at this point was The Seed Floor 48 Practice Map in MapleStory Worlds. In a full run, reaching this floor for even a single attempt took a long time. The practice map let me repeat the difficult sections as needed. I practiced the final three-tier section dozens of times, focusing on the spot where I kept falling.
By watching the direction of the throwing stars, I developed a feel for when to jump forward and where to pause. Understanding what to do from a guide was one thing; getting the movements into muscle memory was another.

With that practice behind me, I returned to full runs. After about 15 attempts, I cleared floor 48 for the first time.
The guides and practice map helped, but I still had to make that final jump myself. Getting past the section where I had fallen so many times and finally reaching the exit was a real thrill.
4. Finally Reaching Floor 50 and Earning Dorothy Challenger

After floor 48 came the picture quiz on floor 49. With help from a site called “메이플 유틸,” I passed it without much trouble.
The site helped with more than just the picture quiz. It also covered the cloud jump quest, invisible jump quest, BGM quiz, and the floor where you had to remember a code. It was a resource I could really rely on while playing The Seed, but unfortunately, it is no longer running.

At last, I reached floor 50, the final floor, and met its boss, Dorothy. After the struggles of floor 48, the boss fight was much easier. The generous allowance for deaths meant I could keep going even if I died a few times.

And with that, I finally cleared floor 50 of The Seed.

Afterward, I received the Dorothy Challenger medal from Alicia's Soul. The related achievement is called “[The Seed] So You've Finally Made It This Far.” After all the effort it had taken to get there, those words felt especially meaningful.

I reached this milestone on March 5, 2023, about 3 months after starting MapleStory. Of course, I had not spent that entire time focused solely on clearing floor 50. Learning the lower floors while hunting for Seed rings had given me the experience I needed to reach the top.
5. Tips from My Experience
For me, the most effective approach was to practice difficult sections separately. Full runs are necessary too, but if you keep failing in the same place, it helps to find a way to get comfortable with that specific section.
Based on that experience, here are a few tips to keep in mind when taking on the challenge.
-
Understand each floor's rules first
Knowing what to do was just as important as being able to make the jumps. I started by reading guides and watching videos to learn the routes and understand what would cause a failed attempt. -
Give yourself enough time
Getting my Hazy Stone slots ready and making sure I had enough time remaining gave me more breathing room when attempting new floors. -
Practice difficult jump quests repeatedly
On floor 48 in particular, knowing the route was not enough. I also needed to develop a feel for the timing of each jump to dodge the throwing stars. -
Prepare for the final boss fight
It is easy to overlook combat preparation when you are focused on clearing jump quests. Have your bossing setup ready too, so you do not find yourself facing Dorothy unprepared in your mobbing setup.

That wraps up the story of my journey to earn Dorothy Challenger. I'm not sure I would be ready to go back to spending over two hours a day playing The Seed. Still, I think seeing Dorothy Challenger will remind me for a long time to come of the persistence it took—and the moment I finally reached the last floor.
