[MapleStory] Exorcist Medal Guide|Defeat 44 Zombie Mushmoms

This post was created as part of

Nexon's PEAK activities.

Hello!

Of the medals I've earned recently in MapleStory, 〈Soul Conjurer〉 gave me the most trouble.

It involves tracking down monsters across several regions, and getting 44 Zombie Mushmom kills was particularly time-consuming.

The prerequisite medal, Spirit Diviner, took about 1 hour, and Soul Conjurer took about 2 hours.

That came to about 3 hours in total. I found it tiring, so I split it over two days.

It doesn't require the mechanical skill of a boss fight, but it has its own challenges.

To help you avoid wandering around killing only the small mushrooms like I did,

I'll walk through the process and share what I learned through trial and error.

1. The Medal Quest Chain Begins with Spirit Diviner

Soul Conjurer is the second stage in a medal quest chain that leads to Saint Exorcist.

Spirit Diviner → Soul Conjurer → Exorcist → Saint Exorcist

The quests follow this order, and you must finish each stage before taking on the next.

To start, speak to “The Rememberer” in Sleepywood.

You can also check the quests and your progress in the Medal menu.

I used the ; key to open the Medal menu.

If you've changed your key settings, check which shortcut you have assigned.

If this is your first time starting the chain, look for Spirit Diviner here.

2. The Prerequisite Medal, “Spirit Diviner”: About 1 Hour

For Spirit Diviner, you need to defeat 444 of each of the following monsters.

Target Monster

Kill Count

Example Hunting Location

Platoon Chronos

444

Ludibrium, The Path of Time〈1〉

Master Chronos

444

Ludibrium, The Path of Time〈4〉

Mummydog

444

Perion, Military Camp 1

Wraith

444

Kerning City Subway, Line 2 Area 2

Searching for a monster's name on the World Map can help you find the maps where it appears.

If you have access to World Map teleportation, that makes travel easier too.

261019__2

You can find the Chronos variants in Ludibrium's The Path of Time <1>–<4>.

261019__4

261019__3

For Wraiths, head to the Kerning City Subway.

You'll find them in Line 1 Area 3 or Line 2 Area 2.

Keep in mind that you need to meet the kill count for each specified monster, not a combined total for the whole map.

Check your quest counts before moving on, especially on maps where several monster types spawn together.

261019__5

Including travel and time spent finding the right locations, earning Spirit Diviner took me about 1 hour.

Spirit Diviner was relatively straightforward compared with Soul Conjurer, which came next.

3. Soul Conjurer: 444 of Each Regular Monster, 44 Zombie Mushmoms

261019__6

261019__20

After completing Spirit Diviner, accept Soul Conjurer.

Target Monster

Kill Count

Hunting Location

Skeleton Soldier

444

Perion, Excavation Site: Danger Zone

Officer Skeleton

444

Perion, Closed Area

Coolie Zombie

444

El Nath, Forest of Dead Trees

[★] Miner Zombie

444

El Nath, Dead Mine area

Zombie Mushmom

44

Sleepywood, Ant Tunnel 2

261019__6.5

Skeleton Soldiers are in Perion, where I earned Spirit Diviner.

261019__7

Officer Skeletons are on the adjacent map, Closed Area.

261019__9

Coolie Zombies and Miner Zombies are in El Nath.

Coolie Zombies appear in Forest of Dead Trees 1–4. Clearing the maps as you move through them is faster than staying in one place waiting for respawns.

261019__11

Enter the Dead Mine connected to Forest of Dead Trees 4, and you'll find Miner Zombies right away.

261019__8png

The Miner Zombies you need are in a Star Force area,

so check both the monster name listed in the quest and the hunting area's requirements.

For the regular monsters, it's simply a matter of visiting the right areas and hunting them.

261019__12

Zombie Mushmom was the difficult part.

Since it was the only monster that required just 44 kills, I thought this part would be quick.

Instead, this mushroom took the longest.

4. A Beginner's Mistake: Killing Only the Small Mushrooms

Zombie Mushmom appears in Sleepywood's Ant Tunnel 2.

Unlike regular monsters, it doesn't continually spawn in groups,

and it reportedly takes about 25 minutes to respawn.

That means reaching 44 kills can take a long time if you wait on just one channel.

As a beginner who mostly played solo,

I didn't know I could switch channels to look for it.

I just kept killing the small mushrooms on the same map.

Why isn't Mushmom showing up…

Do I need to kill more of the little ones…

261019__13

After about 10 minutes of hunting, a small mushroom was added to my Monster Collection.

That was a welcome bonus,

but I was looking for their mom.

By then, I was starting to realize something was wrong.

5. The Solution: Cycling Through Channels

261019__14

Instead of waiting on one channel,

look for Zombie Mushmom in Ant Tunnel 2 on other channels.

261019__15

When Zombie Mushmom spawns, this message appears: “A giant mushroom radiating an ominous aura has appeared somewhere.”

When I saw the message announcing that powerful presence in chat,

I took it as a cue to look for its location.

You might miss the message, or the monster might already have spawned,

so don't assume it isn't there just because you haven't seen the message.

Here's the method I used.

1. Look for Zombie Mushmom in Ant Tunnel 2.

2. Defeat it, then check that your quest count has increased.

3. Move to the next channel.

4. Repeat until you reach 44 kills.

The main spots to check are the top center and the bottom left and right.

261019__16

Defeat it when you find it. For such a large mushroom, it's surprisingly cute.

Still, you need to defeat it to earn the medal.

Is one round through the channels enough?

Scania had 39 channels.

Even if I found one on every channel, a single round wouldn't have been enough to reach 44 kills.

On some channels, someone else may already have defeated it.

261019__17

At one point, I kept switching channels without finding Mushmom and wondered what was going on.

It turned out another adventurer was doing the same thing.

Ah, you're working on the medal too…

If possible, I recommend trying this at a quieter time.

261019__18

On my 44th Zombie Mushmom kill, I also got its Monster Collection entry ^_^

I spent some time waiting because I didn't know how to approach this,

but if I did it again, I'd plan my route like this.

1. Accept Soul Conjurer and cycle through channels for Zombie Mushmom first.

2. If you have trouble finding more, hunt the other four monster types.

3. Return to Ant Tunnel 2 after meeting the regular monster requirements.

4. Make more rounds through the channels, checking how many Mushmom kills you still need.

Working on the other requirements while waiting for respawns should cut down on time spent standing around on one map.

If someone is already hunting there, try another channel.

6. Earning the Medal: How Long Did It Actually Take?

Once you've finished the Zombie Mushmom kills, check that you've also defeated 444 of each of the other monsters.

261019__22

After meeting all the requirements, return to The Rememberer and complete the quest to receive the Soul Conjurer medal.

261019__21

You can also earn Artifact points.

Here's how long each stage took me.

Stage

Actual Time Spent

Spirit Diviner

About 1 hour

Soul Conjurer

About 2 hours

Total

About 3 hours, split over two days

These times include travel, hunting, and my trial and error along the way.

Your time may vary depending on your character's hunting speed and how busy the channels are.

For me, this was less about fast inputs and more about finding the targets and patiently working toward the required counts.

I'd recommend it if demanding mechanics aren't your preference, but you enjoy reaching goals through exploration and repeated hunting.

Since you'll be visiting several regions, having a travel option such as a Teleport Rock ready should help you spend less time finding your way.

I found it rewarding and really enjoyed it ㅋㅋ

As for Saint Exorcist... I'll take a short break before thinking about that...

That's all for now ^_^
