Mobile RPG Pet Recommendations: Choosing a Mabinogi Mobile Pet for Your Class

If you are looking for a good pet to accompany you in Mabinogi Mobile, start with your class rather than the pet list. The same pet can be a reliable combat companion or little more than a cute accessory, depending on the class it accompanies.

There are two reasons to consider your class first. A pet's main contribution to combat comes from its companion stats, which need to match your class's needs to be effective. Promoting a pet also leaves its innate stat types unchanged. Since you will be keeping the pet you choose, it is important to find one that suits your class from the start.

Drawing on my experience raising pets while playing Dual Blades, I will walk through how to choose a pet that suits your class.

Pets and Stats: What to Know First

Pets in Mabinogi Mobile have four key features.

  1. Companion stats: In addition to basic stats, each pet boosts 2 predetermined stats.

  2. General skills: These are assigned randomly and can be changed by using another pet of the same grade as upgrade material.

  3. Unique skills: These abilities are fixed for each pet type, become available at Epic grade, and cannot be changed.

  4. Tags: Matching a pet's tag with a general skill's tag strengthens that skill's effect.

Of these features, the 2 predetermined companion stats are the most directly relevant to your class. They include stats such as Critical Hit, Multi-Hit Enhancement, and Break, which affect how damage is calculated.

Critical Hit is generally worth increasing regardless of class, but the best choice for the remaining stat depends on what you play. This makes it important to find a pet that suits your class.

To choose the remaining stat, consider how your class deals damage. For example, Greatsword Warriors benefit from Heavy Hit Enhancement. They charge up to deliver a powerful single blow, making them well suited to Heavy Hits, which apply when a single hit deals damage equal to at least 40% of attack power.

Mage classes benefit from Skill Speed. Since they rely on skills to fight, how often they can use those skills directly affects their damage output.

Dual Blades prioritizes Multi-Hit Enhancement. Its continuous attacks with paired swords naturally meet the Multi-Hit condition of landing at least 6 attacks within 3 seconds. The September 17 update gave the 'Vitality' skill a permanent 25% increase to Multi-Hit damage, making Multi-Hits even more valuable.

Following the recent Additional Hit patch, the Shih Tzu has also become a highly sought-after pet thanks to its Critical Hit + Additional Hit stats.

Even if your class is not listed above, the approach is the same. Think about which tags you usually prioritize when crafting gems or choosing level-up bonus cards. The stats you already favor are the ones to look for in a pet.

What to Check When Choosing and Raising a Pet

Once you have chosen a pet, refine its setup with general skills and tags. You can change general skills by using another pet of the same grade as upgrade material. Fill the slots with skills that boost the stats your class needs, and match the pet and skill tags to strengthen their effects further. Unique skills cannot be changed, so use them to compare pets when choosing between several candidates.

It also helps to understand promotion before you begin. Pets are promoted by collecting 3 of the same grade, progressing through Advanced, Rare, Elite, Epic, and Legendary. Promotion leaves their appearance, companion stat types, and unique skills unchanged; only the stat values and number of skill slots change. Pets used as materials are consumed even if promotion fails, so double-check that both companion stats suit your class before committing to raising a pet.

Raising the New English Sheepdog to Legendary

I knew the Shih Tzu was popular, but I have been adventuring with the English Sheepdog, which was released on September 17. I was more interested in trying out the new pet and raising it myself.

Pets generally look slightly different at each grade. The English Sheepdog was released with a gray appearance at Advanced, a ribbon at Rare, a scarf at Elite, and a Festival English Sheepdog version at Epic. Each promotion added another decoration, which made raising it rewarding.

Obtaining this pet at its native Epic grade also grants a title with ownership bonuses of Attack +20, Defense +20, and Skill Speed +130. Other pets also grant titles with ownership bonuses when obtained at their native Epic grade. These bonuses provide substantial stat increases, so players who prioritize stats often pull for the pets even if they do not plan to use them.

I had been using an Epic pet, but after raising this newly acquired pet to Legendary and taking it into combat, I noticed a substantial difference. My damage output increased noticeably, and the same content became much easier to complete. I saw firsthand that raising a pet's grade brings clear benefits. Choosing a pet that also suits your class from the start can make that same effort even more rewarding.

The Pet Lucky Box, now featuring the English Sheepdog, is on sale until November 5 at 5:59 a.m. If you are interested in the new pet, check how well it suits your class as well.

Ultimately, a good pet for your adventures is one that suits your class. Raising a pet because you like its appearance or want to try something new can also be rewarding in its own right.
