Online RPGs are a good fit for people who find satisfaction in making progress or want to connect with others through a shared game. Levels and rewards make the results of your efforts visible, while shared events and challenges give you something to talk about.
I am a MapleStory beginner—a “메린이”—who started playing because of the new character 레테. I am currently taking part in Personal Burning with my level 260 레테, and I have also tried the Hangul Day minigame 한글 모아모아.
Drawing on these experiences, I have put together an overview of the kinds of players who might enjoy online RPGs like MapleStory.

1. People Who Find Satisfaction in Making Progress

For me, one appeal of online RPGs is how much sooner you can see your progress than in real life. Outside a game, even consistent effort can take time to make a noticeable difference. In games, that change is visible in numbers such as EXP and levels.
In MapleStory, working toward the next level or a new progression goal brings that same sense of accomplishment. I am currently taking part in Personal Burning with my level 260 레테.
Personal Burning is an event that sets progression goals based on your level and EXP when you join. Rather than leveling up without a clear direction, you can work toward a specific next milestone.

Your pace of progression depends on your character’s level range and how you play. Still, if you enjoy reaching goals and seeing the results, this kind of event should suit you well.
2. People Who Want to Connect with Other Players

You can develop a character and enjoy a story in single-player RPGs, too. Online RPGs add the pleasure of playing with others and talking about shared experiences.
Discussing what you found difficult in an event you both played, or simply looking at each other’s rewards, gives you common ground. You do not have to defeat a difficult boss together to enjoy that connection.

The recent 한글 모아모아 event is one example. The puzzle itself is a solo game, but struggling to make sense of the same pieces or comparing scores gives players something to discuss.

There is also a shared Hangul effect that appears when characters wearing the reward hats stand close together. An item earned on your own becomes something you can enjoy with others.
If you want to connect with people who enjoy the same game, these small interactions can be another reason to play MapleStory.
3. People Who Enjoy Discovering New Ways to Play

Events in online RPGs introduce new ways to play beyond hunting monsters. The 한글 모아모아 minigame I tried this time was more challenging than I expected.
Some pieces looked familiar from Tetris, but the more unusually shaped ones took me aback. I wondered where I was supposed to fit them.
Interestingly, even the odd-looking pieces had others that fit alongside them. Finding a matching shape, filling a gap, and clearing a line felt quite satisfying.
As I played, it felt more like an exercise in organizing space than a game of Tetris. I had to think beyond the piece I was placing and consider both the remaining pieces and the space I would need next.
In particular, I had to avoid placing pieces carelessly and leaving gaps that only a single dot could fill.
|
Tips to Keep in Mind |
Why It Helps |
|
Consider all three pieces together |
New pieces appear only after you place all three |
|
Rotate and flip pieces |
The same piece can fit in different spaces depending on its orientation |
|
Fill horizontal lines |
Completed horizontal lines are cleared from the board |
|
Minimize single-cell gaps |
They can easily block space you need for later pieces |
|
Use ability items |
Placing a dot or redrawing pieces can help when you are stuck |
4. People Who Want to Make Their Own In-Game Memories

The 500,000-point challenge was not easy for me. Still, I appreciated being able to earn rewards by accumulating points, even if I could not get a high score in a single round.

You can earn the rewards by building up points over multiple rounds, which takes some of the pressure off doing well in a single attempt. Rewards can be claimed until October 14 at 11:59 PM, and any coupons you receive must be used before October 15 at 2 AM.

The hats and title earned this way become keepsakes of the experience. Looking at them later, I can imagine thinking, “I remember taking part in that Hangul Day event.”
There is something rewarding about collecting memories as my character gains levels. I think online RPGs also suit people who enjoy taking part in new events each season and keeping reminders of those moments on their characters.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Who would you recommend MapleStory to?

Q. How do you earn the 한글 모아모아 rewards?
