FC Online: Comparing My South Korea Squad with a Friend’s—Same Nation, Different Teams
꽤돼

[This post was created as part of Nexon PEAK activities.]
Hello, I'm 꽤돼.
For me, the fun of comparing teams with a friend in FC Online goes beyond seeing who has the more expensive squad.
What I found most interesting was how two squads using the same South Korea team color can have completely different player setups depending on the formation. Even trait choices vary depending on whether you mainly play manager mode or control the players directly.
I currently use a South Korea squad in manager mode.
For this comparison, I put the squad I actually use, worth around 300 million, alongside a South Korea squad worth around 500 million built for direct control, taking the same approach I would when comparing teams with a friend.

Both are South Korea squads, but the differences start with the formation
My South Korea squad has a displayed squad value of 300 million and uses 310 in total salary.
I use a 4-1-2-3-0 formation, with no players in a traditional ST position.
In manager mode, AI movement and tactics determine how matches play out, rather than my direct control of the players. Instead of a traditional setup, I use a 42130 formation that allows everyone to benefit from the supporter Fervor effect at the same time.
My friend's squad, on the other hand, was worth around 500 million and used a 4-2-2-2 formation.
Son Heung-min and Cha Bum-kun formed a defined front two, with Koo Ja-cheol and Hwang Hee-chan supporting them from behind.

Both teams use the South Korea team color and share some players, but side by side, they reflect quite different approaches.
Rather than funneling the attack through a single player up front, I built my team around multiple players moving and joining the attack. My friend's team instead uses Son Heung-min and Cha Bum-kun as two dedicated strikers.
Personally, I find these differences the most interesting part of comparing teams with a friend in FC Online.
Questions like “Why use this formation?” or “Why put this player in this position?” give us much more to discuss than simply comparing player stats.
The differences extended beyond formations to player traits
Player trait choices were another interesting part of this comparison.

Since I mainly play manager mode, I make frequent use of Two Hearts and Line Breaker across several positions.
I'm not controlling movement or performing skill moves myself, so I place more importance on players staying active and moving into space than on making skillful plays with a single player.
By contrast, the traits that stood out in my friend's squad were useful for direct control.

For example, the attackers used skill-move-focused traits such as Trickster, while even a defensive midfielder had Laser Shooter equipped to offer a long-range shooting option.
That combination wouldn't be my first thought for manager mode, but it can make more sense for someone controlling the players directly.
Even with the same players, such as Cha Bum-kun or Son Heung-min, the chosen traits gave me some idea of how each was meant to be used.
The squad values also differ, at around 300 million and 500 million, but once I compared the teams, where each of us had invested to suit our play style stood out more than the price difference.
Why a team is built a certain way is more interesting than whose team is better
When building a team on my own in FC Online, I naturally tend to focus only on my own players and tactics.
But when I pit my team against a friend's or look through another person's squad with them, I come across players and formations I wouldn't normally consider.
In this case, my friend and I both had South Korea squads, but I chose a 4-1-2-3-0 without an ST and movement-focused traits for manager mode. My friend's squad leaned more toward a 4-2-2-2 with two strikers and traits suited to direct control.
So if you're comparing teams with a friend in FC Online, don't just look at squad value or player overall ratings. I recommend considering the formation, primary game mode, player positions, and traits together.
Even squads built around the same team color can turn out surprisingly different depending on how you prefer to play.
Players who mainly enjoy different modes, such as manager mode and ranked matches, may also rate the same player differently. For me, that makes the comparison even more interesting.
If you want to compare squads with a friend, building different teams is one option. But I think using the same South Korea team color and seeing how your squads differ, as we did here, is another interesting way to approach it.
That's all from me, 꽤돼.
