「Mabinogi Mobile」 My Pet Shines Even When the Odds Disappoint: How to Choose a Pet in Mabinogi Mobile

This post was created as part of
NEXON PEAK activities.
Every Mabinogi Mobile player has a companion by their side: a pet. Whether you are in town or exploring a dungeon, pets can accompany you wherever you go. You can even bond with them. New pets continue to be added, though there does not seem to be a fixed release schedule.

So which pet is best for your adventures in Erinn, the world of Mabinogi Mobile? The answer depends on your playstyle, but for adventures, dungeons, and raids, your pets' skills and capabilities are important considerations. There are currently 16 types of Epic pets, each with its own unique ability. Their companion stats also vary, so the best choice will depend on your class and the kind of combat you prefer.

I have only shown Epic pets as examples, but Elite and Rare pets have their own companion stats and skills too; they simply cannot use their unique abilities. Green Common pets, blue Rare pets, and purple Elite pets all have stats and skills. Their performance (ㅠㅠ) simply varies by rarity.

Does that mean rarity is everything? Not necessarily. Some traits are fixed from the moment you obtain a pet, but pets can also be promoted. Promotion changes some things while leaving others untouched. A pet's appearance, its 2 specific companion stats, and the unique skill it can use at Epic rarity or higher all stay the same after promotion.
What changes are the stat values and the number of skills the pet can use. Skills are assigned at random. However, if you own another pet of the same rarity, you can change those randomly assigned skills, though the other pet is consumed in the process. Having plenty of pets of the same rarity, or a pet with the skill you want, makes it easier to build your preferred combination. Since promotion success rates decrease as rarity increases, setting up your pet's skills at purple rarity may be the easiest approach.

Beyond the shared companion stats—Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Will, Luck, and Charm—look for the two stats that suit your combat style. Then, since skills are assigned at random, use multiple pets to build your preferred skill combination. Unique skills, however, are only available at Epic rarity or higher and cannot be changed, so your choice of pet determines which one you get. Read through each pet's abilities carefully to find one that suits you.

The main ways to obtain pets are to summon them with Lucky Box tickets or purchase them under Packages - Starter or Packages - Special. There are two types of summoning tickets: Regular Pet Tickets and Premium Pet Tickets. Both can be purchased and are sometimes given out during events, so free-to-play and low-spending players can obtain them too.

Of course, things do not always go as planned. Lucky Boxes are random, and the options for obtaining a specific pet are limited. If the companion stats you want belong to a pet available only at Epic rarity or higher, you would have to keep trying until you get it... That may be an option if you have enough resources to invest, but not everyone does. With that in mind, here is how I see it.

For me, the best pets are the ones I already have. From those companions, I need to choose the ones I like most. Higher-rarity pets also have lower summoning chances, so if you want particular stats, it is worth deciding on your priorities before trying. Still, making the most of the companions you have matters too. In the end, I chose mine by appearance (?).

I then built around the stats I needed as closely as I could, making compromises along the way. This companion has since been a great help in combat. It was also my first Epic pet, obtained 278 days after I started playing. I had never summoned an Epic pet, so I promoted this one from Elite rarity instead. Now it is my most dependable partner in battle.

In town, I spend time with a variety of companions. Some days I take 복슬이, other days my sensitive but cute leopard cat, and still others my dependable panda... the list goes on. I enjoy gathering materials around town with them and sitting by the campfire to chat. You can even have them clean. Not every moment needs to be spent in combat, and these companions are good for my mental well-being when I take time to relax and enjoy myself.

Looking for the best pet for you? Start by checking the pets in your bag. You may already have a companion with just the right stats and appearance for your tastes. With that, I wish everyone reading this a happy day.
