Hello

The keyword for this post is POTM, and the main goal was to look at what POTM is and how it connects to FC Online. I do not know much about soccer myself, so this was a pretty unfamiliar topic for me, but while putting this together I ended up learning some interesting things. The outline is as follows.

• What is POTM?

• How is POTM selected, and how is it connected to FC Online?

• What rewards are given when a player is selected for POTM?

Q : What is POTM?

When I first searched for POTM, two meanings came up: Player of the Match and Player of the Mouth. In the context of FC Online, it refers to the latter and means Player of the Month. In other words, being selected is basically recognition that the player performed well during that month.

The term itself can be used broadly, but here it specifically refers to the K League. It is an award presented by the Korea Professional Football League and EA Sports to a player who has delivered outstanding results over the course of one month.

Q : How is POTM selected, and what connection does it have to FC Online?

This was the part I found especially interesting. Unlike many other awards, which are often decided mainly through internal review, this one is chosen through voting, and votes from FC Online users also affect the final result.

Voting group	Share
Korea Professional Football League TSG (Technical Study Group, technical committee)	60%
K League fans	25%
EA FC온라인 user vote	15%

For most other awards, I would usually expect the decision to come only from evaluations by relatively authoritative groups such as the Korea Professional Football League. So the fact that fan and user voting makes up as much as 40% was surprising to me, and it seems to have quite a lot of influence.

Online user voting takes place on the official FC Online website during the designated period. Since the award itself is jointly hosted, this kind of format seems possible.

The most recent Player of the Month award for August went to Jeong Seung-won. Interestingly, the same player had also won in the previous month, July.

This was reportedly a first in the club’s history. In July, he recorded 5 goals in 5 matches, and in August, 3 goals and 3 assists. Considering that the award is based on performance within a single month, that seems especially impressive.

You can watch the highlight clip starting at 3:31 in the video.

Q : What rewards are given when a player is selected for POTM?

Players selected for POTM receive a few benefits. First, they are given a commemorative trophy along with 1 million won. They also earn the right to wear a POTM patch on their uniform. The trophy shown above was used from 2020 to 2023, while the patch is a design used in 2025.

Since this is also tied to FC Online, users who took part in the vote receive rewards like the ones above as well, and a Player of the Month mark is applied to the selected player’s in-game player card.

Many people who enjoy FC Online probably also follow real-world soccer, so I found it interesting that there is content like this that connects so directly with actual players.

Thank you for reading.
