What may seem obvious to some is not always obvious to beginners... which is why an official guide for beginners matters.

If you spend a lot of time with online RPGs, there is a certain kind of knowledge you end up absorbing almost without noticing. You log in, make a character, level up, and more or less understand what you should be doing next. You do not hesitate much when it comes to interacting with the world around you or starting a new quest, because you already have a rough sense of how these games work. So you manage on your own, look things up for yourself, cooperate with other players when cooperation is needed, talk to NPCs, follow clues, and keep progressing while using the systems the game gives you.

But what if you are completely new to RPGs? What does it feel like to step into one for the first time? I found myself thinking back to when I first entered Mabinogi Mobile. I logged in and created a character, but I truly had no idea what I was supposed to do. At the time, there was not even a basic guide. I entered the game, Nao greeted me, I received some bread and the traveler’s guide, and I was told to go say hello to Duncan, so I did... and after that, I was simply dropped into the world.

So I wandered around for no particular reason, coaxing chickens to get eggs and hitting trees to gather fruit. I knew eggs and tree fruit could be eaten, but I still remember the feeling of spending all that time collecting eggs, only to get hit by a fox and break every last one of them. Once broken, they had to be thrown on the ground, because they were useless. And that is really the point I am trying to make. A high degree of freedom means there is more you can do and more you can enjoy, but if you have absolutely no sense of what you should be doing, that same freedom can leave a person feeling completely stuck.

At some point, RPGs really did become much friendlier. Even if you do not search anything up yourself, the game now gives you a fair amount of guidance. Early on, it points you toward what to do and who to talk to, almost like a compass. Up to a certain stage of progression, you can simply follow that guidance. Even that alone is enough to give you a rough outline of what kind of game Mabinogi Mobile is. Still, even when the same information is presented to everyone, experienced players naturally notice more, while beginners can only take in and understand so much. And in moments like that, there is something especially useful: the official guide.

Sometimes, information that feels obvious to one person becomes almost like air, so familiar that you do not even realize someone else may not know it. Take combat, for example. We use monster Break quite often, but I do not think that many players fully realize there are different types of Break. The official guide is a simple place to learn that kind of knowledge. The official guide on the Mabinogi Mobile website collects basic official information about Erinn like this, and I do think it can help if you check it whenever something crosses your mind or you find yourself curious about how something works.

One of my friends actually started RPGs through Mabinogi Mobile. Since they were playing a Warrior, I assumed they would naturally be geared mostly toward heavy armor, but they were wearing a mixture of equipment types instead. It turned out they had simply pressed auto-setup and were using whatever looked strongest. If that friend had known, even in a simple way, that a Warrior needs Strength, and what kind of equipment helps support that stat more effectively, they probably would have become stronger much more easily. Even without memorizing that Strength is essential, just reading the guide likely would have helped them get the general idea.

Then, while looking through equipment, they would also be able to see the differences between heavy armor, light armor, and cloth armor. Heavy armor raises Strength the most, light armor raises Dexterity the most, and cloth armor raises Intelligence the most. To people who already enjoy RPGs, that may sound almost too obvious to mention, which is exactly why it is easy to forget that, for someone else, it is information that still has to be learned. I think details like these are especially easy to overlook.

I will leave a link below so you can easily open the Mabinogi Mobile official guide. Even if you already know the game well, you may still find more detailed information there, and if you are unsure about something, it may be worth reading through the sections one by one. Rune descriptions, for instance, can sometimes be hard to interpret unless you already know exactly what situation they apply to. In any case, I hope this post has been helpful for beginners. And with that, I hope everyone reading today has a happy day as well.
