What is it about Mabinogi Mobile that keeps me playing it day after day?

These days, there are two main reasons I keep coming back to Mabinogi Mobile. One is the fun of collecting songpyeon and trading it for the items I want, and the other is the fun of finding new stories through side quests. Even after I finish my dungeon runs and hunting grounds, once I start wondering, “What story will be waiting for me today?” I usually end up staying in Erinn a little longer.
Collecting songpyeon and filling in stories

Lately, I’ve really been enjoying running dungeons and hunting grounds to collect songpyeon. The reason is simple: I can trade the songpyeon I gather for all kinds of items, including the Chuseok hanbok set. It also means I can work on my character while preparing the rewards I want, so every time I log in, I have something to do.
Once I’m done with my dungeon runs, if I still have some time left, I clear side missions one by one. Since I only recently came back, I still had quite a few stories piled up. Filling them in little by little each day has its own kind of appeal—different from leveling up, but just as satisfying.

This time, I played through “Special Egg,” “Special Chick,” and “Where Flowers Linger,” which were added in the September 17 update, in that order.
Here are the starting conditions and NPCs for each one.

Finding the special egg and chicks

Chef Gordon told me the wagon delivering ingredients had been attacked and asked me to check whether anything was left at the scene. He specifically asked me to bring back the special egg if it was still there.

But when I got there, I found newly hatched chicks instead of an egg. When I brought them back, Gordon explained that they had come from ordinary eggs, not the special egg.
That naturally led into the “Special Chick” quest, as Gordon asked me to keep looking since there were probably more chicks wandering around.

The Special Chick quest cannot be auto-progressed. You have to walk around the village yourself and find 3 chicks and 4 special chicks. You bring them back by interacting with NPCs, animals, and nearby objects.
At first, it can be hard to tell where to start, but your movement area stays limited until the quest is complete. The chicks are also placed in fairly noticeable spots, so it ended up being easier than I expected. I just checked the area carefully little by little and was able to find them all.

You just need to check the NPCs, animals, and objects near the locations marked on the map above. If you want to find them on your own first, it would be a good idea to look around before using the map for whichever chicks you still have left.
A flower-decorated bridge and a small change

I feel this every time I see it, but it’s so pretty
Next, I spoke to Dell at the flower shop and started “Where Flowers Linger.” Dell said she wanted to talk with the client about how to make better use of the flowers from the event, and asked me to come along.
After that conversation, we decided to collect the flowers from the event venue and place them elsewhere around town. While thinking about where they would fit best, we chose to decorate the plaza where lots of people gather.

Along the way, I ran into the child and the dog I had met earlier while looking for the chicks. The dog couldn’t cross the bridge because it had once fallen into the lake before. So we decided to decorate the area with flowers to draw its attention somewhere else.

I got to decorate the bridge myself by placing the flowers and arches where I wanted, and that part was more fun than I expected.
Once it was decorated with flowers, the dog was no longer afraid of the bridge and could cross safely. It even became a bit of a talking point among the townspeople.
Seeing how surprised and happy Dell was made me feel good too.

The character I met while searching for the chicks shows up again in the next story, so the three quests ended up feeling like one connected village story. What started as something to do with the time I had left after running dungeons ended up leading to decorating a bridge and getting to know the townspeople a little better.
The hydrangea pot in my home

I opened the “Elegant Hydrangea Pot Deco Box” I got as a quest reward and placed the flower pot in my home too. From now on, whenever I see this hydrangea pot at home, I think I’ll remember the day I searched for chicks and decorated the bridge for the dog.
If you enjoy learning the small stories behind NPCs, or like exploring and decorating the world yourself, I’d recommend trying these side quests. And if, like me, you came back to a long backlog of unfinished stories, it’s also nice to work through them one by one after finishing your dungeons.

Gradually collecting the items I want, and having the story I enjoyed that day remain in my home as a single flower pot. As little experiences like that build up, I find myself wondering what story I’ll come across tomorrow. That’s why I’ve been playing Mabinogi Mobile so consistently lately.
