Who is FC Online for? From football fans to Manager Mode players
꽤돼

[This post was created as part of NEXON PEAK activities.]
Hello, I'm 꽤돼.
I don't think you have to be a huge football fan or good at 1:1 matches to enjoy FC Online.
Building a squad with your favorite players is enjoyable in itself. And if direct competition feels stressful, there are other ways to enjoy the game, including Manager Mode and league matches.
When it comes to real football, I mostly watch the World Cup or Korea–Japan matches, along with the occasional match featuring Son Heung-min, Kim Min-jae, or Lee Kang-in when I have time.
Still, I've enjoyed FC Online for quite a while, going back to FIFA Online 3, and I recently started playing again.
In this post, I'd like to share my thoughts on who might find FC Online a good fit, based on my own time with the game.
I Didn't Know Much About Football, but One Favorite Player Was Enough

Since I'm not a particularly big football fan, there were plenty of players I knew little about when I started.
Even now, if I'm not especially interested in a player, I sometimes forget whether they're right-footed or left-footed, or what their weak foot rating is—even if they're in my team.
It's a different story with players I already liked, though.
I used to play as Juventus a lot because I liked Nedvěd, and scoring with a player like him felt that much more satisfying.
Sometimes I'd keep feeding him the ball just to try to score with him. Scoring and then watching him celebrate felt noticeably different from doing the same with another player.

Even if you don't know much about football, getting to know the players as you play is part of the fun.
When I see a player I often use in the game playing in a real match, they catch my attention more than they used to. If they perform well, I naturally find myself checking out real football matches now and then.
I particularly enjoyed following cards from seasons such as UCL, where Live Performance updates depend on how players perform in real matches. It gave me another reason to look forward to seeing the players in my squad do well in real life.
I think this would be even more enjoyable for existing football fans who build a squad around the team they support and then watch that team's matches.
If 1:1 Competition Feels Stressful, Try Manager Mode Instead

I think FC Online's core appeal is still facing another player in 1:1 PvP.
But I don't actually play much PvP myself.
I spend most of my time building squads or running Manager Mode. When I want to control the players myself, I usually play league matches against the AI.
These days, I still try to get through all 20 automated Manager Mode matches, and usually manage most of them.
I sometimes leave Manager Mode running while I look up other squads or browse the transfer market. I'll also leave it on while doing something else, like working on my blog.
I'm not controlling the players myself, but I still get the enjoyment of competing against other users' teams with a squad I built.
That's why I think Manager Mode could be a good fit for people who find 1:1 matches stressful but still want to try FC Online, or for anyone who enjoys idle games like I do.

For me, the occasional PvP match when meeting up with friends was enough.
You don't have to spend all day playing ranked matches. You can simply play a match or two when you have a little time, then log off.
I know people who do exactly that: they open FC Online during a short break, play a match or two, and then get back to what they were doing.
Like me, you might find more enjoyment in building a team, running Manager Mode, and occasionally upgrading players or drawing cards than in controlling the action yourself.
Who I Think FC Online Suits Best

Based on my experience, here's how I'd roughly break it down.
|
If You... |
Why It Could Be a Good Fit |
|
Enjoy real football and have favorite players |
You can sign your favorite players and build a team around them |
|
Like building squads |
You can enjoy comparing players, seasons, and upgrade levels to build a team that suits your preferences |
|
Find competing against other users stressful |
Ranked matches aren't your only option—you can also play against the AI or use Manager Mode |
|
Prefer building and watching a team to controlling it yourself |
You can enjoy watching your own squad play in Manager Mode |
|
Want to gradually get to know football players and teams |
Building a squad naturally leads you to look up different players and clubs |
|
Want to play casually rather than spend long hours in one sitting |
You can play a match or two when you have time, or use Manager Mode |
That said, I wouldn't say the game is for everyone.
Personally, I think it could be stressful for anyone who wants the team they've built to hold its value over time.
FC Online continually adds new season cards. When a better-performing card for the same player comes out, the card you've been using can drop in price.
If seeing an expensive squad lose value bothers you, this could be a source of frustration.
And even with Manager Mode and AI matches available, 1:1 matches remain a core part of a football game. If the very idea of competing directly against other people feels particularly stressful, it might not quite suit your tastes.
Even though I don't follow football every day, I've found plenty to enjoy in FC Online.
If you enjoy real football, playing with your favorite players is part of the appeal. Even if you know little about the sport, you'll naturally get to know individual players as you play.
If you enjoy controlling the action yourself, there's PvP. If, like me, you prefer building squads or find 1:1 competition stressful, you can enjoy Manager Mode or league matches instead.
Ultimately, I think FC Online is a good fit not just for football fans, but also for people who enjoy building a team with their favorite players or watching their own squad take to the pitch.
That's all from me, 꽤돼.
