Whenever I log into the game, there is my character in the center of the screen. I may not have given much thought to customization when I created them, but the more time I invest in them, the less they feel like a mere collection of polygons and the more they become my persona.

Another word for this is avatar (AVATAR), which, in a religious context, means an incarnation—my incarnation, descended into the digital world. It is hard to imagine a more fitting expression, and it raises a question worth reflecting on.

How closely does my avatar reflect who I am in real life?

When I look at Nao, who means far more to me than a mere collection of polygons, I almost feel as though I am seeing her through my own eyes rather than my character's. Surely, then, my avatar has gone beyond simply representing some part of me. Gotta love it!

In fact, most players project their own identities onto their characters through the way they play, whether they realize it or not. Those patterns of behavior are what we call a playstyle.

In Mabinogi, players generally fall into 3 playstyles: those focused on combat, those devoted to life skills, and those who enjoy chatting. Do you relentlessly pursue strength, take pleasure in watching your life-skill proficiency rise, or prefer connecting with others, wielding your keyboard as your weapon? There is probably no right answer.

If combat is your main focus, dungeon corridors will be a familiar sight. Running the same dungeons over and over can grow tedious, but unexpected rewards, such as Mythic drops, always deliver that sudden rush of dopamine, while the road to a stronger character unfolds through a steady succession of tiny gains in combat power.

Even when you run a dungeon solo, Mabinogi's chance encounter feature offers a sense of companionship with people whose paths briefly cross yours. Of course, if a light appears above their heads announcing a Mythic drop, that sense of belonging gives way to jealousy, which only fuels your determination to keep hunting in dungeons.

If your playstyle centers on life skills, you will probably spend most of your time watching your character gather resources: raiding chickens' nests, chopping down trees, and mining ore. This seemingly endless cycle of simple tasks is your companion on the road to becoming a life-skill artisan, and just when boredom seems to have consumed you completely, something arrives.

That glorious moment when a life skill levels up. It may be nothing more than a small change in a number, but for anyone aspiring to become a life-skill master, these little steps will eventually add up to a moment of complete satisfaction.

There has been some welcome news recently for those focused on life skills: the AI 커넥트 beta. For players devoted to these pursuits, I think it could make everyday life-skill routines more efficient. It seems AI's reach is set to extend even into our fantasy lives.

For players who prize the social side of the game, combat and life skills alike serve as springboards for conversation or screenshots. Their playstyle is perhaps the most fitting of all for the MMORPG genre, and they are always hungry for conversation, happily drawing in any introvert who happens to pass the campfire in town.

If town is quiet, they make themselves noticed in front of a dungeon's goddess statue, hoping someone will spare them a word. Becoming a master of social interaction is no easy task, though, as with anything, getting started is the hardest part; once you truly embrace the community, even this becomes part of the fun.

We may all be playing the same game, Mabinogi Mobile, but each of us gravitates toward a different playstyle. Perhaps you are running a dungeon even as we speak, endlessly swinging an axe in some secluded spot, or standing perfectly still while giving world chat your full attention. There is no right answer; these are simply different ways to play.
