Today, I’m returning to Mapleland (메랜) after a bit of a break, this time with a quest in Edelstein. Being back in Edelstein brings back plenty of memories, though it also feels a little new. At this point in the game, Edelstein was still just a town of machinery living under the Black Wings’ oppressive rule. That got me curious about what quests were available back then. So today, let’s take a look at Strange Sign, a quest from Police Officer Belle, an NPC in Mapleland’s Edelstein.

Police Officer Belle

Police Officer Belle welcomes you to Edelstein and offers to help with anything except catching bugs. As it turns out, though, she’s the one who needs help. Really, this is her way of asking for a hand.

Belle says the Black Wings have been keeping a less watchful eye on the town lately, so outsiders have been visiting Edelstein more often. The broken signs have been confusing visitors, though, so she asks you to defeat 50 Strange Signs.

You can find Strange Signs at Strolling Path 2 in Edelstein. Belle says the old, worn-out signs shouldn’t be hard to spot. Let’s head over.

Strange Sign Hunting Ground

Strange Signs are level 16 monsters. They’re easy enough for someone like me, but they’re also a manageable target for anyone just starting a Resistance class. Defeat all 50, then head straight back to Belle.

Reward

When you return, Belle asks whether you’ve defeated all the Strange Signs. She’s impressed and tells you that you’ve been a great help to Edelstein. Although she isn’t the town’s representative, she wants to thank you as a police officer. That mention of speaking on behalf of Edelstein sounds like a hint about Belle’s identity, doesn’t it? You’ll receive 390 EXP.

She explains that there used to be plenty of dependable senior police officers, but after the Black Wings occupied the town, they all either disappeared while fighting or left to fight. She’s the only one remaining, so she asks for your understanding about the situation in Edelstein. With a final apology from her, Police Officer Belle’s Strange Sign quest comes to an end. That line about officers disappearing while fighting or leaving to fight feels like an early hint at the crisis facing the Resistance.
