What makes running a club in FC Online fun? Thoughts on a Juventus squad and Manager Mode
꽤돼

[This post was created as part of NEXON PEAK activities.]
Hello, it's 꽤돼.
I've been playing FC Online for a long time, going back to the FIFA Online 3 days.
For me, the biggest appeal of running a club in a football game is building a team with my favorite players,
along with upgrading those same players to better season cards, one by one, as I save up BP.
I recently returned to FC Online, and I've been exploring my options for building a new single-club squad with around 37 million BP.
Even after a long break, I still end up spending more time deciding on a team and browsing the transfer market than actually playing matches.
Some teams just suit me better

Working on another squad today
I didn't start out looking for a team that stood out from the crowd.
I tried popular teams like Real Madrid and Chelsea, and I also used a South Korea squad when it was particularly strong in the game.
After trying various teams, the one I ended up using the longest was Juventus.
My particular favorite at Juventus was Nedvěd.
He was equally good with both feet, and he felt comfortable to play with. Whenever I built a squad, I kept coming back to him.
That was when I began to realize that, regardless of how many famous players a team has or how highly others rate it, some teams simply suit you better than others.
For me, that was Juventus, with its many two-footed players and a team that felt comfortable to use overall.
I didn't change formations much either, sticking almost exclusively with 4-2-3-1.

The squad I used when the salary cap was 260
That doesn't mean I only used popular teams, though.
Sometimes I tried less common choices, like Benfica or Leipzig.
Often, it wasn't an attachment to the club that drew me to these teams. Instead, I wanted to use one player I liked, so I built the entire squad around him.
There isn't much reason to do that if performance is your only concern, but putting those teams together is enjoyable in its own way.
I found myself looking into players I wouldn't normally use. There was something satisfying about seeing who was available for each team and filling out the squad one player at a time.
Upgrading players one by one as I save up BP

A squad isn't finished just because you've put it together. Part of the fun is upgrading those same players to better season cards or higher enhancement levels, one by one, as you save up BP.
I used the transfer market often, and sometimes I tried enhancing players myself, more for fun than for efficiency.
Since returning and planning a single-club squad with around 37 million BP, I've been enjoying the decisions themselves: who to buy first, and which positions I can afford to spend less on.
Less popular teams did have their difficulties. Sometimes I gave up on a team altogether because the cards I needed were no longer being generated or had no listings on the market. Other times, I struggled to move on to my next squad because the players I already had wouldn't sell.
It used to be inconvenient to lose access to a player as soon as I listed him for sale. A recent change means I can keep using that player until he actually sells, which makes things much easier for someone like me who changes squads often.
I prefer building teams to playing matches myself

I've never been one to play ranked match after ranked match against other users in FC Online.
When I wanted to play alone, I usually played bot matches, controlling the team myself against AI. When I didn't feel like taking control, I often used Manager Mode instead.
I remember reaching Champions in Manager Mode back in the day, too.
I've always enjoyed putting together character builds and equipment in games. Perhaps that's why, in FC Online, I found building a team and continuing to adjust it more enjoyable than the matches themselves.

What I particularly liked about Manager Mode was watching matches play out automatically with the players I'd chosen.
I could leave it running and watch, a little like an idle game, and enjoy seeing how my chosen players performed.
I didn't build teams solely for Manager Mode, though. I also enjoyed playing bot matches myself, so I looked for players who did well in automated matches and felt comfortable when I controlled them directly.
For football fans, there's the pleasure of playing with real-life favorites. I think the game is also a good fit for people who enjoy finding players and building teams more than playing matches, as I do.
There's no need to stick to popular teams. Building a team you wouldn't normally try, all because of one player you like, can be quite enjoyable.
I'm still deciding which single-club squad to build with my 37 million BP. Once I've chosen a team, I imagine I'll be saving up BP again and making changes one by one.
In the end, for me, the pleasure of running a club in an online football game lies in gradually building a team with players I like and players who suit the way I play.
That's all from 꽤돼.
