MapleStory is well known for its pixel graphics and charming style, but plenty of players also enjoy it for more challenging content like boss raids. I’m one of them, and a big part of the fun for me is improving my specs and taking on stronger bosses step by step.

Solo bossing is fun in its own way, but the higher you climb, the more often you reach bosses that really require teamwork. If you play Maple with friends, it’s worth setting your sights on those bosses and raising your characters together.

Today, based on my experience playing MapleStory with two friends, I’d like to share how you can grow together and challenge bosses as a group. If you’ve been looking for an RPG to enjoy with friends, this may be a useful reference.

Challengers World and Hyper Burning are the best time to jump in

Even in the past, people often said MapleStory was easiest to start during summer or winter because of the major seasonal events. These days, the game also opens Challengers World alongside its big summer and winter updates.

In Challengers World, you get powerful buffs even without an existing foundation like Union, and the game lays out progression goals step by step, which makes building your character feel much more motivating. The rewards are excellent as well.

The 20 level-200 growth potions are a huge help for strengthening Union on the main server, and rewards like Sol Erda Fragments, various progression materials, and Cubes are valuable both for new players and for raising sub-characters. Once you finish leveling, you can also World Leap to the server you want.

On top of that, the burning benefits themselves have improved significantly: Hyper Burning up to level 260 (gain 5 levels when leveling up), Burning Beyond up to level 280 (gain 2 levels when leveling up), and even Item Burning that automatically fills your weapon and armor slots. Thanks to all of that, raising a burning character in Challengers World allows for steady progression even with no prior setup.

Progress with Liberation and higher-tier bosses as your goal

In MapleStory, the first major goal is Liberation. By consistently defeating lower-tier bosses, including the Black Mage, and collecting Traces of Darkness, you can liberate your Genesis weapon and use it as your main weapon.

During this process, a paid product called the Genesis Pass is sometimes sold. If every party member is using the Genesis Pass, up to 6 players can take on the Liberation quests from Lotus to Verus Hilla together.

Of course, thanks to Challengers World benefits and the various burning events, solo play has become much easier as well. Even so, when soloing is still difficult—such as in the first or second week—there’s a lot of fun in growing alongside friends and challenging those bosses together.

In the past, some players would lose their next goal after defeating the Black Mage and completing Liberation, because the gap to the following boss felt so large.

Now, though, many lower-difficulty versions of higher-tier bosses have been added, and new bosses continue to appear. That makes it much more enjoyable to keep upgrading your specs and clear bosses one stage at a time.

In party play, you can generally take on bosses that are about twice as strong with 2 players, or three times as strong with 3 players. In other words, the more you and your friends improve your specs together, the more bosses you’ll be able to set as your next target.

How to check party boss cut requirements

At this point, it can be hard to estimate a party boss cut because every player in your group will have different specs. That’s exactly where the party boss cut feature comes in handy. I personally use the 환산주스탯 site.

If you search your own ID and your friends’ IDs with commas (,) between them, then select the boss you want, the site shows the party multiplier and how the rewards are distributed.

As an example, I checked the party boss cut using three characters I own. For Chaos Kalos, the party multiplier comes out to 107.88%. That’s not an especially comfortable number, but it’s still reasonable as a challenge goal.

Personally, I recommend setting your next goal around bosses where your party multiplier is roughly 150%. It won’t be easy, but the thrill of finally clearing it is tremendous, and it creates exactly the kind of challenge that keeps you motivated.

I hope you get to experience the fun of improving your specs with friends, taking on stronger bosses, and steadily expanding the number of bosses you can clear—and the rewards that come with them.

Today, I introduced a way to grow together with friends and challenge bosses in MapleStory. Even if each of you raises your character separately, once you gather around the same boss goal, the reason for improving your specs becomes much clearer.

You don’t need to aim for the very highest-tier bosses right from the start. Begin with the bosses your party can challenge now, and clear them one by one. If you’re looking for the satisfaction of seeing your progress pay off together with friends, MapleStory is well worth trying.
