MapleStory is known for its pixel graphics and charming style, but challenging content like boss raids is also part of its appeal. For me, much of the fun comes from improving my character and taking on tougher bosses one step at a time.

Taking on bosses alone is fun, but higher-tier bosses eventually call for teamwork. If you play MapleStory with friends, consider making these bosses your shared goals and building up your characters together.

Today, I'll share ways to progress together and take on bosses, drawing on my experience playing MapleStory with two friends. If you've been looking for an RPG to enjoy with friends, this guide may help.

Challengers World and Hyper Burning: The Perfect Time to Start!

Players have long recommended starting MapleStory in summer or winter to take advantage of its major seasonal events. These days, Challengers World opens alongside major updates every summer and winter.

Challengers World offers powerful buffs even if you haven't built up systems like Legion yet. It also gives you a series of goals to work toward, helping you stay motivated as you progress. The rewards are substantial, too.

The 20 potions that bring characters to level 200 are a big help when building up Legion in your main world. Rewards also include Sol Erda Fragments, various progression resources, and Cubes, making this a good option for both new players and those building alternate characters. Once you've finished developing your character, you can use World Leap to transfer to your preferred server.

Burning benefits have also improved considerably. Hyper Burning takes you up to level 260 (gaining 5 levels per level-up), Burning Beyond continues up to level 280 (gaining 2 levels per level-up), and Item Burning fills your weapon and armor slots for you. With these benefits, building a Burning character in Challengers World lets you progress steadily, even when starting from scratch.

Work Toward Liberation and Higher-Tier Bosses

Your first major goal in MapleStory is liberation. By regularly defeating the Black Mage and lower-tier bosses, you collect Traces of Darkness to liberate your Genesis weapon, which then becomes your main weapon.

A paid option called the Genesis Pass is sometimes available during this process. If every party member has the Genesis Pass, up to 6 players can tackle the liberation quests from Lotus through Verus Hilla together.

Challengers World benefits and the various Burning events have made solo play easier. Even so, progressing and tackling bosses with friends can be especially enjoyable when solo clears are still difficult, such as during the first or second week.

In the past, players sometimes lost their sense of direction after defeating the Black Mage and completing liberation, because the next boss was still so far out of reach.

Now, many higher-tier bosses have lower-difficulty modes, and new bosses have been added as well. This makes it more rewarding to strengthen your character gradually and work your way from one boss to the next.

As a rough guide, a party of two can take on bosses twice as strong, while a party of three can tackle bosses three times as strong. As you and your friends improve your characters, more bosses become potential targets for your next goal.

How to Check Which Bosses Your Party Can Clear

Since everyone's character stats differ, estimating which bosses your party can clear can be tricky. A party boss clear calculator helps with this. I use the MapleScouter website.

Enter your character name and your friends' character names, separated by commas (,), and run a search. Then select the boss you want to check to see your party's clear ratio and how the rewards are divided.

For this example, I checked the party boss clear estimates for three characters I own. Their party clear ratio for Chaos Kalos was 107.88%. That doesn't leave much room for error, but it could still be a worthwhile goal.

Using this method, I recommend choosing a boss with a party clear ratio of around 150% as your next goal. It won't be easy, but the difficulty offers a motivating challenge, and finally clearing it is especially rewarding.
