There are probably a lot of reasons a game can keep someone playing for a long time.
Sometimes it’s because there’s just so much to do, and sometimes it’s because you’re playing with friends.
But the reason I keep playing 마비노기 모바일 feels a little different.
It’s that this is a game that, eventually, feels complete.

🌱 Season 0, when things came together quickly

1

In Mabinogi Mobile Season 0, getting the runes you wanted was much easier than it is now.
That was because if you cleared Math Abyss and used the Abyss Fossils you earned there
to buy an Abyss Wish Jar,
you could directly choose the legendary rune you wanted and obtain it.
Thanks to that, even runes that were considered top-tier endgame picks at the time, like Mana Torrent, Rock Giant, and Thousand-Blade Sword, could be completed relatively quickly.

2

Being able to guarantee the rune you wanted felt genuinely satisfying.
Anyone could finish the setup they were aiming for without being at the mercy of luck.
But as time passed, that system started to show its downside too.

3

If you played consistently for just a few weeks, most people ended up with very similar runes,
and before long it turned into a kind of uniform build where everyone was using the same setup.
Naturally, the excitement of farming and finally landing a great rune started to fade too.

💎 Season 1, reworked for the long haul

4

In Season 1, the Unknown Rune system was added.
Right now, there are basically two ways to get legendary runes in Mabinogi Mobile.
You can obtain them naturally from dungeons or hunting grounds,
or you can combine 3 epic runes and try to upgrade them into a legendary rune with a 10% chance.

5

Of course, if you’re lucky, you can get the rune you want pretty quickly.
But if luck isn’t with you, upgrade attempts keep failing,
and it’s easy to feel frustrated when the rune you want refuses to drop in a dungeon.
I’ve had plenty of moments like that myself, where the rune I wanted just wouldn’t show up.

6

But the Unknown Rune system relieved a lot of that frustration.
If an epic rune upgrade fails, then depending on which type of equipment rune you tried to upgrade,
you receive Unknown Rune Fragments for weapons, armor, or emblems.
Once you collect 100 of those fragments, you can create an Unknown Rune,
and an Unknown Rune is an item that guarantees a legendary rune you haven’t obtained before.

7

Getting the rune you want right away is obviously the best outcome.
But even when that doesn’t happen, the day’s play never feels wasted.
Failed upgrades still add to your Unknown Rune Fragments,
and even unwanted legendary runes can be dismantled so you can build those fragments back up again.
I really liked that even if I don’t get the result I want right now, I’m still moving closer to my goal in the end.

🌟 Trusting that it will be finished someday

8

Even now, in Season 2, I still haven’t finished the rune setup I want.
Every day I run dungeons, gather runes, combine them, and try for upgrades.
It feels great when I happen to get the rune I want,
but even when that doesn’t happen, I’m not too discouraged.

9

Failure turns into Unknown Rune Fragments, and those fragments eventually become an Unknown Rune.
And that Unknown Rune, in time, fills in another rune I still haven’t obtained.
I didn’t get it today, but I will someday
Having that belief is what keeps me playing instead of giving up halfway.

10

On top of that, this season added pity systems not just for runes, but also for legendary pet upgrades and legendary fashion synthesis.
If you’re lucky, you can get what you want quickly, and even if you aren’t, you can still eventually reach your target,
so I’m happy to see the system itself continuing to improve in that direction.

The reason I keep playing is that I can see the finish line

When you play online games, there are times when no matter how hard you try, you still never get the item you want.
In the end, plenty of games leave you either paying a huge price through the marketplace or player-to-player trading,
or simply giving up because your luck never came through.

But Mabinogi Mobile feels a little different.
Even if the rune I want doesn’t drop today, that day’s play still pushes my account forward bit by bit.
Even failure has value, and even on unlucky days, I’m still moving one step closer to my goal.

That’s why I think Mabinogi Mobile is a game you really can stick with for a long time.
It may be a little slow, but in the end, it does come together.
That belief is what makes me log back into Erinn again today.
