[PEAK Challenge] Just hearing that map’s background music brings me right back to those days — MapleStory maps filled with nostalgia

If you’ve been playing MapleStory for a long time, you’ve probably had that moment when a certain map’s background music starts playing and memories from those days come flooding back all at once. It stops feeling like just a game map and starts feeling like a place that still holds the atmosphere of that time.

Today, I want to talk about the MapleStory maps whose scenery and music have stayed with me together in memory.

When you first start MapleStory, most people begin in Henesys. The green grass, the charming village buildings, and the background music playing there all stay with you alongside the memory of that first moment of stepping into the world of MapleStory.

Even now, the Henesys BGM still carries that same sense of excitement. Its bright yet warm melody holds the exact flutter of those first days in the game. The map itself also captures MapleStory’s signature cute 2D scenery so well. That’s why Henesys lingers in memory for so long—even when you go back now, that feeling is still there.

Perion is a desert region filled with stone and red earth. I still remember how striking it felt the first time I saw it, because its atmosphere was completely different from Henesys. Its rugged cliffs and barren landscape were what first showed me that MapleStory could hold worlds with such different moods.

Unlike Henesys, the Perion BGM feels more grand and serious. It was on this map that I first felt how wide the game world really was. It wasn’t just a pretty map—it was the one that made me realize the world of MapleStory could carry many different kinds of atmosphere.

If I had to choose the most unforgettable region for scenery in MapleStory, it would be Ereve. A backdrop like a city floating in the sky, white and gold buildings, and the majestic BGM flowing through it all together make you feel just how beautiful a MapleStory map can be.

Ereve is more than just a hunting ground—it feels like a space that holds its own world. The map is filled with details unique to this region, and the background graphics are crafted so delicately that simply walking around is a pleasure for the eyes. I remember taking screenshots the first time I arrived in Ereve, and that alone says how deeply this map stayed with me for its scenery.

Arcana is often considered one of the MapleStory maps where the background music and scenery come together most perfectly. True to its setting as a mysterious world of forest spirits, the map background feels dreamy and beautiful.

The moment the Arcana BGM starts playing, it feels like the map’s atmosphere is finally complete. The music and the background don’t feel separate—they come together to create one whole space. There was a moment while hunting there when I found myself focusing on the BGM. Arcana was the first place that made me realize just how much game music can bring a map’s atmosphere to life.

When it comes to MapleStory’s map scenery, don’t just pass through—take a moment to stop, look at the background, and listen to the BGM too. Even now, there are still so many maps where that feeling remains. Which MapleStory map has stayed with you the most?
