Taking part in the Nexon PEAK Post Challenge

Sometimes when you're gaming, collecting things one by one and filling in those blanks can be just as absorbing as leveling up your character.

Take Pokémon GO, for example: filling out your Pokédex and hunting for special Pokémon is part of the fun, while in MapleStory, the Monster Collection and all those cosmetic items offer their own kind of collecting fun.

In Tales Runner, which I play regularly, collecting costumes for different characters to complete my own collection and earn rewards was another thing that kept me playing for so long.

So, as someone known for being obsessed with collecting games, I thought I'd give you a quick look at what makes collecting so fun in the games I play.

1. Collections I had fun building

1.1. Pokémon GO

See my Pokédex in all its glory?

I started playing on launch day (back when it was just Kanto and Johto..ㅎ..)

Collected everything there was to collect, quit, then came back for Hoenn ->

Lately, with Sinnoh, Alola, Galar, and more,

I'm back to collecting again.

So if filling out the Pokédex and hunting for special Pokémon

was what made Pokémon GO fun for me..

1.2. MapleStory

In MapleStory, it was all the fashion items and

the Monster Collection I have a love-hate relationship with ㅡㅡ

(I've lost count of how many times I beat Pink Bean just to get that collection entry... sigh..)

MapleStory has a Monster Collection system where you register all kinds of monsters.

Even monsters I'd normally walk right past became collection targets,

and that brings back memories of going out of my way to find them again and grinding away until they finally registered ㅋㅋㅋ

1.3. Tales Runner

Did you know Tales Runner has a collection log too..?

Of course, Tales Runner doesn't have monsters or anything, so

it's mostly about putting together seasonal item collections like these,

or filling out the fishing log like this..

Sometimes you collect story cards you get from playing

and use them to unlock or upgrade items.

2. Why I kept collecting

As for what kept me collecting in each game,

here's a quick rundown.

1	Pokémon GO (Pokédex)
I want to fill out my Pokédex while taking a walk or just heading out! => Recommended if you're the "Might as well do this while I'm at it" type. (Yes, that's me^^)
2	MapleStory (Monster Collection)
I want to collect monsters while hunting and exploring! => I highly recommend this, especially if you enjoy exploring maps all over MapleStory. └ Just keep in mind that a collection entry isn't guaranteed.. ㅎ.. Sometimes you have to defeat over 200 monsters in one spot before one registers, so save this for when you have plenty of time.. I did have fun with it, though.. Maybe that's just the obsessive collector in me;;
3	Tales Runner (Fashion items)
I love collecting all kinds of fashion items to give my character a look of my own! And those items boost my stats too?! Yes! => Even the stat-boosting gear in Tales Runner has plenty of appeal for fashion lovers, so if you love dressing up your character, I really can't recommend it enough. └ But if you get obsessive about stat-boosting gear, I wouldn't recommend it ㅎ...ㅠ

In the end, I think the fun of collecting is less about how much you have

and more about filling in a collection log one entry at a time

to create your own record of what you've accomplished.

I hope all kinds of games keep finding new ways

to make collecting a reason to keep coming back,

and keep building on what makes it work so well.
