[PEAK Challenge] Mabinogi Mobile, the entry point I’d recommend for getting into the Mabinogi series

When people think of a game series, they usually picture a story that carries over from one title to the next.
But many Nexon games have been run as long-term live services,
so each entry often ends up building its own story in its own way.

Personally, when I think of a Nexon franchise that really feels like a series, Mabinogi is the first one that comes to mind.
Having played Mabinogi, Mabinogi Heroes, and Mabinogi Mobile myself,
what impressed me most was how each game brings out a different kind of charm within the same IP.

More recently, Nexon also revealed the direction of the “Mabinogi Universe,”
connecting Mabinogi, Mabinogi Heroes, Mabinogi Mobile, and even the in-development Mabinogi Eternity within one shared world setting.
It is not a series that continues in one perfectly uniform way,
but I think that is exactly what makes it enjoyable—you get to experience each title and gradually piece together the world for yourself.

🌱 My First Mabinogi

1

What first drew me to Mabinogi was its life-skill content.

At the time, I was looking for a game with features like cooking and crafting,
and in Mabinogi, life content was not just a small side activity but a fully developed way to play.
You could shear wool, spin thread, and make fabric to create clothes for yourself,
and there was also the whole process of mining ore, refining it, and crafting weapons and armor.

2

These days, it is easy to find life-skill content in all kinds of games,
but back then, it was rare to see a game offer that kind of experience in such depth.
To me, Mabinogi’s biggest appeal was the feeling of making things with my own hands and living alongside other players.

3

What started for me as a game centered on life content eventually became,
at some point, a game full of different kinds of enjoyment across combat, story, and community,
and one that stayed in my memory for a long time.

Mabinogi Heroes, Which Grew in a Different Direction

Later on, Mabinogi Heroes showed a completely different side from the original.

4

If Mabinogi emphasized freedom, everyday life, and adventure,
then Mabinogi Heroes leaned into more realistic graphics and action-focused combat.
They share the same world setting, but the way you experience them is fundamentally different.

5

At first, it felt a little removed from the bright, peaceful atmosphere I usually prefer, so it did not catch my interest all that strongly,
but when I came back to it later, I started to appreciate the appeal of its story and worldbuilding.

6

Mabinogi Heroes is set in an earlier era than Mabinogi,
so it introduces places and stories such as Colhen and the Hoarfrost Hollow.
If you are already a Mabinogi player, there is also a certain fun in spotting familiar names reappearing in different forms.

📱 If You Were Starting Now, Mabinogi Mobile

If I were recommending one title to someone getting into the Mabinogi series for the first time today, it would be Mabinogi Mobile.
Mabinogi Mobile carries over the spirit of the original Mabinogi while refining it for the current gaming environment.

7

The original Mabinogi had a very distinct atmosphere, but over its long years of service, it also accumulated some inconvenient elements.
Mabinogi Mobile trims down those parts and makes the story easier to follow.
Thanks to auto-progression and a range of quality-of-life features,
even first-time players can experience the world and story of Mabinogi without feeling overwhelmed.

8

That said, it is not just a direct copy of the original.
Mabinogi Mobile includes not only familiar places from the original, such as Tir Chonaill and Dunbarton,
but also areas like Colhen and Hoarfrost Hollow that appeared in Mabinogi Heroes.

9

From the perspective of someone who has played both Mabinogi and Mabinogi Heroes,
I found it interesting to see elements from different titles existing together in one space.
It is also one of the things that makes me curious about where the Mabinogi world setting will expand next.

Learning the Mabinogi World Like a Puzzle

10

Since the story of the Mabinogi series has continued for so long,
it is not easy to take in everything at once.
So if someone is just starting out, I would recommend using Mabinogi Mobile first to get a sense of the overall flow,
and then exploring other titles for the parts that make you more curious.

11

For example, the story of the three heroes in Goddess Advent, as well as the lore related to Paladin and Dark Knight,

can be explored in more detail in G1~G3 of PC Mabinogi.
Another part of Mabinogi’s unique appeal is looking through in-game books or NPC dialogue and piecing together scattered bits of information.

12

You can also encounter the story of Cichol and Morrighan in Mabinogi Heroes.
Each title is enjoyable on its own, but the more entries you experience, the more fun there is in discovering where the world setting connects.
It is not about following one perfectly continuous story, but about discovering the individual charm each title brings to the series.

I do not recommend the Mabinogi series simply because it is an old IP.
It is because each title offers a different kind of enjoyment, whether through life content, combat, story, or community,
and because even over time, it continues to offer new ways to experience that world.

Especially if you want to step into the world of Mabinogi for the first time now, I think Mabinogi Mobile is the best starting point.
It lets you follow the story in a more convenient environment while still preserving the spirit of the original,
and if your interest grows from there, you can naturally expand into PC Mabinogi and Mabinogi Heroes.

If you want to experience one world setting in a variety of different forms, I would gladly recommend the Mabinogi series!
