Whenever I started a new game, I always had the same worry: “Will I be able to do well in this game?” A new game meant so much to learn, from unfamiliar controls to all kinds of systems. Sometimes it felt like everyone else was picking it up easily while I was the only one falling behind, and there were even times when I left the game open and just sat there for a while, unsure of what to do next.

But there was one game that helped me stop seeing games as something difficult and instead enjoy learning them slowly, one step at a time. That game was Mabinogi Mobile. So if someone asked me, “What game would you recommend to someone who’s playing games for the first time?” I think I would say Mabinogi Mobile.

1. It’s a very welcoming game

Mabinogi Mobile felt like a very welcoming game to me. Whenever there was something I didn’t understand, there was a separate guidebook that explained everything step by step in detail, and even the official in-game guide clearly told me what I needed to do and how to do it. Because of that, even though I started on my own, I was able to understand the game as a whole without having to search things up separately or study in advance. It wasn’t a game I had to study just to play well. Instead, I came to understand it naturally while enjoying it. Looking back, I think that’s also why I was able to start Mabinogi Mobile so comfortably and keep playing it until now.

When anyone starts a game for the first time, the most overwhelming thought is usually, “What am I supposed to do now?” But in Mabinogi Mobile, following the quests naturally showed me what my next goal was. I started out simply following the guidance, and before I knew it, I understood the overall flow of the game.

The automatic systems also helped me a lot. When you are still unfamiliar with the controls and don’t really know anything yet, it’s easy to feel lost and unsure of what you should be doing. But in Mabinogi Mobile, the auto-move and auto-battle systems meant that I could simply tap the quest and move automatically, so I never had to worry about where to go. Thanks to that, I was able to settle into the game quite quickly.

2. You don’t have to be good at combat!

Another reason I like Mabinogi Mobile is that enjoying the game doesn’t depend on being good at combat. I’m not the kind of player who especially loves combat. I do enjoy combat content to a certain extent, but as someone who likes dressing up characters, combat is not my top priority. Most RPGs are built mainly around combat content, but Mabinogi Mobile felt different. There was such a wide variety of content that some days I spent my time styling my character, while on others I enjoyed hidden quests, life content, and music performance. It wasn’t all about combat—I could choose what suited my own taste. Sometimes, I even wandered around the game world without any particular goal and just spent time there at my own pace.

What I liked was that, rather than feeling like I absolutely had to do one specific thing, I could choose what I wanted to do depending on my mood that day. That’s why I felt Mabinogi Mobile was a low-pressure game even for someone just starting out. At first, I could learn the game by following the quests, and once I got used to it, I could seek out the content I personally enjoyed. In the beginning, it felt like the game was adjusting to me, and once I became familiar with it, I could enjoy it in the way I wanted.

3. It’s okay even if it’s your first time!

More than anything, when I first started, I didn’t feel much of that “I can’t do this because I’m new” feeling. That is the biggest reason I want to recommend Mabinogi Mobile to beginners. Of course, at first there were many things I didn’t know, and I wondered what I should start with, but if you keep following the main quest the way the game guides you, you gradually become familiar with things one by one. As I followed quests, changed my equipment, and raised my character, there came a point when I naturally found myself thinking about what to do next on my own.

I think that for someone playing a game for the first time, a game that feels easy to start is more important than a game that simply feels difficult. In that sense, I would recommend Mabinogi Mobile as a first game, because it lets you begin easily by following quests at first, and once you get used to it, you can develop your character in the way you want.

If I were recommending a “first game in life” to someone

If someone were about to start playing games for the first time and didn’t know what to choose, I would recommend Mabinogi Mobile. At first, it’s perfectly fine to follow the quests slowly and learn the controls one by one. You can enjoy the fun of growing your character, or you can decorate your character and spend time with the content you personally enjoy.

I didn’t know much about games at first either, but while playing Mabinogi Mobile, I came to feel that games are not only fun when you’re good at them—they become fun from the moment you personally start enjoying them. So to me, Mabinogi Mobile is not just a game I’ve played for a long time. It’s a game where I could experience all of it: the excitement of starting for the first time, the joy of learning little by little, and the satisfaction of watching my character grow.

For me, as someone who wanted to slowly discover the fun of games, Mabinogi Mobile was the game that taught me that kind of enjoyment. To someone else, it may be just one game among many, but to me, it is a game that brings back the excitement of the beginning. So the game I would recommend to someone who is just starting games for the first time—the game I would introduce as my “first game in life”—is Mabinogi Mobile.
