[PEAK Challenge] Maps that genuinely make it feel like you’re traveling — Elsword & Mabinogi Mobile

[Participating in the Nexon PEAK Post Challenge]

When you spend enough time wandering through games, there are always a few maps that end up becoming favorites.

Today, I’d like to talk about maps from two games I play often.

Favorite maps in Elsword, each with its own charm

In Elsword, I think the characteristics and appeal of each map are all quite distinct.

So I picked a few different maps to share.

First, among the dungeons, I really like the Temple of Trials.

I do like the boss character and its story as well, but the main reason is the map itself.

If you look closely, there are all sorts of structures in the background, including armor and statues of mages,

and I think the detail in each one is remarkable.

Another map I like is the Wedding Hall.

You cannot enter this map through the usual method, and because it only opens when there is a wedding event,

I think it leaves a stronger impression.

Lastly, one of my favorite maps is the Guild Hideout.

I could not settle on just one, so I included two hideouts.

With these hideouts, I think the main appeal is in the small, charming details of the elements inside them.

With Elsword, rather than aiming for a photorealistic sense of quality,

I feel it does a great job of emphasizing small charm, grandeur, and cuteness in ways that fit Elsword’s modeling.

Favorite maps in Mabinogi Mobile with a realistic feel

On the other hand, what I like about Mabinogi Mobile is its strong sense of realism and its subtle lighting.

I especially like how well it presents natural elements, so let’s take a look at that together.

These are maps that feature the kinds of natural elements I like.

The depiction of flowers and grass feels both very realistic and very pretty.

In particular, the first photo was taken at Stella Gram, and because the background there is so beautiful, I stop by from time to time to take pictures.

Another kind of map I like in Mabinogi Mobile is one where the lighting really stands out.

From the natural glow of minerals, to the soft light of lanterns, to illumination created through deliberate lighting,

I like how well the game captures the distinct feel of each kind of light.

In Mabinogi Mobile, I think a defining feature is its immersive maps with a realistic feel,

built around motifs drawn from the kinds of structures and plants we recognize in real life.

About the two games

I think both games have many maps, each with very clear strengths of its own.

If I were to summarize the strengths I see in a simple table, it would look like this:

Elsword

Mabinogi Mobile

Its charm lies in its small, delightful details

Its charm lies in its realism

A variety of atmospheres that suit the modeling

Beautiful lighting

Since they each offer different kinds of appeal, why not enjoy both games?
