Participating in the Nexon PEAK Post Challenge



When you start a game for the first time, the very first things you do are usually

1. pick a nickname 2. customize your character 3. put together an outfit (though honestly, that kind of feels like part of customization too ㅋㅋ)

I think the time you spend styling your character yourself is a big part of what makes you stick with a game for so long.

To me, your character is basically your "alter ego" running around inside the game world!

So in this post, I want to give a light intro to a few games where I really got to enjoy the fun of dressing up and customizing.

1. Games where styling and customization are fun

1.1. [Styling] TalesRunner

TalesRunner styling is seriously so much fun, okay?

From everyday looks to princess vibes to full-on fantasy styles,

you can try basically all of it.

On top of that, you can even change the lenses (your eye color),

so players actually share dye codes with each other pretty often.

1.2. [Styling, Customization] MapleStory

Can you really say MapleStory has customization?



If it didn’t, there’d be no reason

for this little guy to exist ㅋㅋ..



I actually

put more effort into character setup than you might expect.

These days, new characters all come with really clean default designs,

so I don’t really change them much.

If anything, what really matters in MapleStory is the styling.



└ Some of these are link-skill characters, so I didn’t even style them.. ㅠ



Hair, face, and all kinds of styling items..

I’ve spent nnn만원 just on MapleStory styling..

If I’d put that into gearing instead... ahem...

Along with the huge range of hair, face, and item options,

if you use Prism items, you can dye your existing items

and style them like that too.

1.3. [Customization, Dyeing] Lost Ark

When it comes to customization, it has to be Lost Ark, right?



The outfits are satisfying too, with a nice spread from casual to fantasy,

and especially when it comes to dyeing,



being able to adjust the patterns and even the gloss like this

was probably my favorite part.

2. Dress-up features I really liked

Just keep in mind that everything below is purely subjective.

I really liked being able to adjust the character’s eye color and the size of items.
2	[MapleStory] Dyeing through Coloring Prism and Prism Color items
I liked that you could change the color of existing items.
3	[Lost Ark] Customization, dyeing
I liked that you can use customization to copy an NPC’s appearance, and that dyeing lets you add gloss and patterns.



Customization—being able to style a character exactly how I want—

really makes me feel more attached to them, even if it has nothing to do with combat.

That’s why when new outfits, hairstyles, and things like that get released, I log back in

to style my character again and show off the finished look.

That kind of play loop can become a goal of its own too, you know?

I grind like crazy, earn gold and mesos,

and go, "I need to buy some OOO styling items for my baby!"

like that ㅋㅋㅋ

In the end, I think the fun of dress-up comes from turning a character

from just a simple avatar into something that reflects my own taste.
