Taking part in the Nexon PEAK Post Challenge



Whenever I start a game, the first things I do are:

1. Pick a nickname 2. Customize my character 3. Put together an outfit (which probably counts as customization too)

I think spending time styling your character is a big part of what keeps a game fun in the long run.

I see my character as my "other self" in the game world, after all!

So here's a quick look at some games where I had a lot of fun making my characters look just right.

1.1. [Outfits] Tales Runner

Putting outfits together in Tales Runner is seriously fun!

From everyday clothes to pretty princess looks and fantasy styles,

you can pull off the whole range.

You can even change your character's contacts (eye color),

so players often swap dye codes.

1.2. [Outfits, Character Customization] MapleStory

Does MapleStory really count as having character customization?



If it didn't, there'd be no reason

for this little one to exist ㅋㅋ..



Personally,

I put more effort into character creation than you might think.

These days, though, all the new characters have such clean default designs

that I don't really change much.

The real focus in MapleStory is the outfit.



└ Some characters are only there for Link Skills, so I haven't even dressed them up.. ㅠ



Hairstyles, faces, and all those fashion items...

I've spent nnn × ten thousand won... on MapleStory fashion alone...

If only I'd put that toward getting stronger instead... Ahem...

Along with mixing and matching hairstyles, faces, and items,

you can use prism items to dye items you already have

and create looks like these.

1.3. [Character Customization, Dyeing] Lost Ark

When it comes to character customization, it's got to be Lost Ark, right?



I love the outfit variety too, with everything from everyday looks to fantasy styles.

And with the dye system in particular,



being able to tweak even the patterns and shine like this

was my favorite part.

2. Styling features I liked

Just a note: these are my personal picks.

I liked being able to change my character's eye color and resize items.
2	[MapleStory] Dyeing with Coloring Prism and Prism Color items
It was nice to be able to recolor existing items.
3	[Lost Ark] Character customization and dyeing
I liked being able to recreate an NPC's appearance with character customization, or add shine and patterns through the dye system.



Customizing your character to look just the way you want

helps you feel more attached to them, even if it has nothing to do with combat.

So when new outfits or hairstyles come out, I log back in

to dress my characters up and show off the finished look.

That can become a goal in its own right!

I'll grind like crazy for gold and mesos, thinking,

"I'm going to buy that OOO fashion item for my baby!"

That sort of thing ㅋㅋㅋ

Ultimately, I think styling is fun because it makes your character more than just an avatar,

turning them into someone who reflects your own tastes.
