I'd never spent a penny on games—

until dressing up my character in Mabinogi Mobile emptied my bank account...

But do I regret it? Not at all! My character is still here, and still looks lovely.

So, just how cute and pretty are these characters to have won me over? Let's take a look!

Q. How does customization work in Mabinogi Mobile?

A. You can adjust everything from hair, eyes, and colors to body type, age, and even height!

This is the character creation screen you'll see when you start. Here, you can choose your overall appearance, hairstyle, eyes, mouth, face shape, facial details, eye accessories, body accessories, colors, age, height, and more. Want to look like a grandmother? A general? You can create all sorts of characters, whatever look you have in mind!

Q. Are there other fun ways to customize my character?

A. Of course! Let's explore them one by one.

1. The Fun of Rebirth✨

Mabinogi Mobile has rebirth! That means you get to customize your character all over again. You choose your initial appearance when you create a character at the start of the game, but using a Rebirth Stone opens up even more customization options. Characters in Mabinogi Mobile also age by one year every Saturday, so regular rebirths are a must if you want to keep that little-kid look!

Whenever I make an alt, I always give them a rebirth. Always! There are just so many more pretty and handsome looks to choose from afterward. Sure, some hairstyles are only available in the cash shop, but you can look lovely without them. I've never bought one, and I still style my characters just the way I like!

You can buy Rebirth Stones in the shop, but they're also given out frequently through events and rewards. Thanks to that, I've been happily styling all 3 of my characters, including my main, without ever buying a single stone. And they're such a treat to look at!

For my first character (my main), I chose an adult woman with body type 1. My second character, an alt, is a young girl with body type 2, and my last alt is an adult man with body type 1. The adults don't need rebirths, but my young girl (my 2nd character) is at her smallest and cutest at age 10, so I use a Rebirth Stone when she starts approaching her teens. She's just too cute...

+ Infinite Rebirth Stone: A while ago, 모비노기 offered an “Infinite Rebirth Stone” for purchase during an event. Since I prefer adult characters for all but one of mine, I figured I wouldn't use rebirth enough to need it. Now I'm kicking myself for not buying it… If it comes back, let's make sure none of us miss out…

2. The Fun of Dyeing🎨

You might be able to dress up your character and dye their clothes in any game, but Mabinogi Mobile has something special! Its dyeing system carries on the tradition of the original Mabinogi. In an unusual twist, Mabinogi makes you find colors on a randomized palette under a short time limit, using precise mouse movements to fine-tune the selection for each dyeable section. Finding pure white (FFFFFF) or pure black (000000) was like finding a needle in a haystack. In fact, plenty of longtime players of the original Mabinogi are said to have all those 6-digit color codes memorized!

The developers brought this system straight into Mabinogi Mobile, and I couldn't believe my eyes when I first tried it. I remember having a little meltdown, wondering, “How am I supposed to dye anything with this?” These days, I can find pure white and pure black fairly easily and dye things just how I want, but newcomers might need a double take! Still, don't let it scare you. Like anything else, it gets better with practice. Give it a try—it's easier than you think!

Getting exactly the color you want is such a thrill... After staring at the palette until my eyes practically fell out, how could I not adore the result? My lovely character feels all the more precious for the effort it took😚

Maybe it's thanks to this dyeing system, but I've yet to see anyone with a look or dye choices similar to mine or those of the people around me. I always take a closer look when a pretty or handsome character catches my eye, so the fact that I haven't spotted any says a lot about the range of customization! I suspect the dyeing system and the variety of clothes have a lot to do with it.

A different dye job can give the same outfit a whole new feel. Everyone has their own aesthetic, so even when we get the same clothes, it's a treat to see all the colorful variations. Getting together for photos in those matching outfits is so much fun! Once I start styling my characters and dyeing their clothes piece by piece, I completely lose track of time. It just flies by!

3. The Fun of Cosplay🎭

You can also have fun cosplaying as your favorite character! I haven't tried it myself yet, but I often come across players doing just that. Popular examples include Howl from Howl's Moving Castle and Zoro from ONE PIECE. It's impressive how faithfully people recreate their favorites within the limits of the customization system. Whenever I see these cosplayers, I want to run over and ask for a picture—they're a photo opportunity all on their own!

Q. Is looking pretty all there is to it?

A. Yes. Looking pretty is everything.

With so many ways to customize my characters, I've made plenty of happy memories dressing them up and dyeing their outfits. Looking back brings it all flooding back...

I think that joy of customization is a big part of what keeps me enjoying the game for longer!
