If you enjoy customization, you have probably spent all your time on the character creation screen

at least once before even starting the game.

I am the same way—when I start a game, I usually focus on my character’s appearance before anything else.

It does not really feel like I have started the game until I have made a character I truly like.

I have played many MMORPGs over the years,

but the one I remember most for customization is Mabinogi Mobile.

That is because of the fun of styling my own character however I want

and seeing the imaginative custom designs other players come up with.

① Why Mabinogi Mobile’s customization is so enjoyable

Mabinogi Mobile’s customization goes beyond simply dressing up a character.

It lets you express a character as a distinct personality, and even browsing other players’ custom looks becomes part of the fun.

There are three main reasons it stood out to me in particular.

①-1. Soft, warm, charming graphics that stay easy on the eyes even over time 

Many games these days emphasize realistic graphics. They certainly look impressive, but after playing for long stretches, I sometimes found them tiring on the eyes.

By contrast, Mabinogi Mobile has an overall soft and warm color palette. Its bright, animation-style visuals and charming character designs make customization even more enjoyable.

①-2. A detailed custom system that lets you fully reflect your own taste

When creating a character in Mabinogi Mobile, you can adjust not only the face shape, eye shape, pupils, and hairstyle, but also height and body type according to the character’s age.

That detailed custom system, layered on top of the game’s warm visual style, makes character creation especially satisfying.  Even within the same class, you can create characters with completely different vibes, and it is also a lot of fun to look around town and see so many different personalities on display.

①-3. The fun of making cosplay-style custom looks that fans cannot resist

What really seals it is the wide range of outfit layering options and the dye system, both of which are especially appealing for fans.

Since you can recreate anime characters or even characters from other games, all kinds of custom looks keep appearing in the community as well. I have often found myself looking at another player’s design and thinking, “How did they make this?” before saving it or trying to recreate it myself.

It goes beyond simply making a “pretty character,” and becomes a different kind of pleasure because you can bring to life anime characters you love or unique concepts of your own. 

② Can you guess who they are?

When you look through other players’ custom designs, you often come across characters that are surprisingly accurate.

This time, just for fun, I put together a quiz where you guess the original character just by looking at the customization. 

②-1. First question

This character has a familiar feel even at a glance. The long blonde hair and the moon mark on the forehead are the clues.

Answer: Sailor Moon

②-2. Second question

This character is defined by a quiet yet mysterious atmosphere. The outfit design is similar, but unfortunately, because this is the customization screen, I could not prepare the black outfit.

Answer: Galaxy Express 999 - Maetel

②-3. Third question

If you like Japanese anime, you might recognize this one right away.

Answer: Naruto

②-4. Fourth question

This was the custom look that surprised me the most when I first saw it. I did not expect even this character could be recreated.

Answer: Jesus

②-5. Fifth question

This one is a figure from mythology. He is famous for being exceptionally handsome.

Answer: Greek and Roman mythology - Apollo

②-6. Final question

If you have played Mabinogi Mobile for a long time, this one probably will not be too difficult.

③ The world of diverse custom looks, and what makes Mabinogi Mobile special

At first, I started playing for the combat, but as time went on, whenever a new outfit or hairstyle was added, the first thing I opened was the customization screen.

Even just seeing the varied and cheerful custom looks of the players I meet in the game makes each day feel fresh and enjoyable.

The reason people keep playing a game for a long time is not always powerful gear or difficult raids.

Spending time styling my own character and appreciating everyone else’s individuality can absolutely be reason enough to keep playing.

Mabinogi Mobile feels like one of the MMORPGs where I was able to experience that kind of enjoyment most clearly.
