Participating in the NEXON PEAK Post Challenge

The longer I play games, the more I appreciate good convenience features.
Features I initially take for granted
often stand out as thoughtfully designed once I try another game.
In Mabinogi Mobile, which I currently play,
automated progression and push notifications are two features I particularly appreciate.
Once I got used to them, I found myself looking for them in other games, too.

🧭 Automated Progression Is Hard to Go Without

Mabinogi Mobile has an automated progression feature called the “Magic Compass.”
In dungeons or hunting grounds, tapping the Magic Compass lets the game handle movement and combat automatically.
It makes content you play repeatedly a little easier to enjoy.

It also comes in handy during quests.
Simply click a quest in the quick navigation panel on the right side of the screen, and your character automatically travels to the required location.
If you need to speak to an NPC, it takes you right to them; if you need to enter a dungeon, it guides you to the entrance.
For quests that require gathering or crafting, it takes you to the processing or crafting station
and opens the relevant menu, saving you from having to find your way there or open menus one by one.

While playing Mabinogi Mobile, I had become so used to these features that I hardly thought of them as anything special.
But playing Heartopia recently completely changed my mind.

Without automatic movement, every quest meant more manual travel.

I had to open the map, check the NPC’s location, and make my own way to the destination.
As I worked through quests and other content, simply getting around became more tiring than I had expected.
Going without that convenience made me realize just how well Mabinogi Mobile’s automated progression feature was designed.

I understand that automated combat is not for everyone.
But a feature that automatically takes you where you want to go
is something I would like to see as standard in many more games.
Spending less time traveling let me focus more on the content I was actively playing.

📱 Push Notifications Help Me Log In When I Need To

Push notifications were another feature I appreciated.

Mabinogi Mobile supports cross-play between PC and mobile,
so even when the game is not running, I can receive updates about important events on my phone.

These notifications flag things that are easy to miss as soon as they happen: silver coins fully replenishing, a processing station finishing its work,
or a field boss appearing.

I particularly appreciated the notifications for completed processing jobs.
To keep processing efficient, it helps to add more materials whenever a job finishes.
With notifications, I did not have to keep track of the timing or set an alarm.
I could simply log in briefly when one arrived and start another processing job, which made things much more convenient.

🔧 What I Would Like to See Improved

There are a few shortcomings, too.

When leveling several alternate characters, I receive separate processing completion notifications for each one, and they can quickly pile up.
An option to choose which characters send notifications, or to group several notifications together, would keep things much tidier.

Another issue is that push notifications sometimes prompt me to log in while the game is undergoing maintenance.
I might try to log in after seeing one, only to find that I cannot launch the game because maintenance is still in progress.
Linking notifications to the maintenance schedule so they are not sent during those periods would be a welcome improvement.

I used to wonder whether too many convenience features might make a game too simple.

But playing Mabinogi Mobile changed my mind.
Streamlining tasks that add little to the fun, such as repetitive travel and management,
while preserving the enjoyment of fighting battles myself and developing my character,
actually made the game more enjoyable for me.

Playing other games has made me appreciate Mabinogi Mobile’s convenience features all over again.
Automatic movement and push notifications, in particular, are features I would like to see in other games going forward.
