[Participating in the NEXON PEAK Post Challenge]

Having a friend or partner who shares your enjoyment of a game is both a joy and a bit of good fortune.

People often say that sharing a hobby with a partner is one of life's greatest joys.

I feel the same way. I love having someone to play with, and over the years I have enjoyed many games with others, including Stardew Valley, MapleStory, Animal Crossing, Mario Party, Tales Runner, and Asgard.

Today, I would like to share 3 games I have played that were even more enjoyable as a pair, along with what makes each one special.

1. Biped / Biped

Biped is a two-player cooperative puzzle game available on Steam. You and a friend work through each map to reach the next stage, so cooperation is essential. One player might turn a lever to open a path for the other—you really have to rely on each other!

- Left Foot, Right Foot 🦶

You control your character's left and right feet separately. The difficulty is very low, but we still could not get through it without cooperating. With just two controls to use, my friend and I moved along calling out, “Left foot, right foot, right foot!” It felt a little odd to say every step aloud, but it helped us keep track. The experience made me grateful that my own feet move the way I want them to.

- Intuitive Puzzles 🧩

You can usually see what a puzzle asks of you at a glance rather than having to puzzle over it for ages, which makes this a good choice for a light gaming session. The harder puzzles took some thinking through with my friend, but overall they were relatively easy, and I could work out the solutions in my head. Putting those solutions into practice with the controls was another matter. My hands did not always keep up with my thoughts.

- In Summary

If you would like a short break to clear your head with a relatively easy puzzle game and a friend, I recommend giving Biped a try!

2. Overcooked! 2 / Overcooked! 2

Overcooked! 2 is a game on Steam where you cook with friends to complete stages. The kitchen is split into areas so that one person cannot do everything, and a time limit makes cooperation all the more important.

- An Easy Way to Pass the Time 🍽

Unlike games that demand a large time commitment or daily play, this is easy to enjoy one round at a time. I liked being able to finish a stage and say, “Let's stop here for today!” Playing with a friend rather than competing against them also took the pressure off. Instead of rushing through the stages, I focused on collecting stars. If we earned just one star, I would suggest trying again—we once replayed a stage more than 5 times to earn 3 stars!

- Plenty to Laugh About! 😆

Things feel fairly manageable at first, but the later, harder stages become truly hectic. With dishes to cook and serve in a hurry, the kitchen descends into chaos, and everyone starts shouting: “Go over there!” “Pass me the fish!” “That's not it!” “There's a fire!” “The rice is burning!” Moments like these had us laughing so hard. Once, my friend served a dish with an ingredient missing. More often than not, there was so much happening that we felt overwhelmed and had no idea where to go or what to do. We would bicker our way through a stage, then immediately congratulate ourselves with “Wow, we did really well,” as though nothing had happened. I remember starting at 7 p.m. after dinner one evening and becoming so absorbed in playing and laughing together that we did not finish until 2 a.m. Few games have kept me so excited and focused!

- In Summary

If you want to pass the time with a friend, lose yourselves in cooking, and share plenty of laughter, I recommend Overcooked! 2!

3. Mabinogi Mobile

Mabinogi Mobile is a NEXON game and an RPG with multiple paths for progression, offering combat, life skills, customization, and more. As you would expect from an RPG, developing your character and creating a look of their own is deeply satisfying. I became quite attached to my character! Automatic combat and movement also make it approachable for people like me who have limited gaming experience. I am still thoroughly enjoying it, and it is my top recommendation for a game to play with a friend or partner.

Beyond teaming up with friends to tackle bosses and raids, as you would in other RPGs, Mabinogi Mobile offers special activities just for two. Since this post is about games that are fun to play as a pair, I would like to focus on those distinctive features.

- A Couple System 💗

Mabinogi Mobile has a couple system that requires both players to agree to the relationship. As the name suggests, you can have only one partner. Friends are marked with a yellow circle, while partners have a pink heart, as shown in the photo above. Becoming a couple also gives you a separate option to travel directly to your partner, and an NPC presents you with a small wall decoration as a gift. When your partner comes near you, the pink heart effect pictured above appears once per channel.

I did not even know this system existed at first, but once I discovered it, simply being able to become a couple with someone I liked made me happy. devCAT has said it plans to expand the couple-related content, so I am looking forward to seeing how the system develops. Why not ask someone special to become your partner?

- A Special Place 💐

Emain Macha in Mabinogi Mobile has a special spot for couples. At “약속의 쉼터,” there are two seats for friends and couples. Sitting there brings up captions featuring the name of the person with you: one seat displays a declaration of love, and the other a declaration of friendship. A friend brought me here just a few days after I started playing, and I remember how touched I was when the declaration appeared. It is well worth visiting with your partner or a friend!

- Decorate a Home Together! 🏡

Mabinogi Mobile has a My Home feature, with large homes among the options. Perhaps you would love a bigger house to decorate, but do not have the gold, find it daunting, or doubt you could furnish it on your own. In that case, you can move in with a friend. You can then share the home and decorate it together.

My most memorable experience with My Home began when I ran short of materials while decorating on my own. I wanted to make my first home beautiful and was working hard at it, but I was missing many of the materials I needed. Decoration parts and seedlings had purchase limits, and I was short of other supplies as well, so I could not craft the decorations I wanted. It was disappointing not to be able to bring my ideas to life. Then my partner, 묘마, told me they had acquired a very large house we could share and suggested moving in together. At our new home, 묘마 asked which decorations I needed and crafted them for me. Thanks to that help, I was able to decorate a home far larger than my original one exactly to my taste!

That was how I created my home sweet home. Perhaps because I gathered and processed the materials myself and put so much of my own taste into the interior, it remains the part of Mabinogi Mobile I feel most attached to.

- Interactions for Two 👫

Emotes are one of the highlights of Mabinogi Mobile, and some let two players interact with each other.

There are plenty to choose from, including giving a ring, being a perfect pair, a princess carry, a couple dance, a sketchbook, and a bouquet. Each is strictly for two people, so the first person to join gets the spot! Wearing matching outfits with a friend and performing the same actions is wonderfully cute. I make sure to take part in every event so I can collect these emotes—I cannot resist something cute. They are one of my favorite features in Mabinogi Mobile and add a lovely touch of charm.

- Playing with Toys 🎮

You can buy these play items at Walter's General Shop in Dunbarton. Added in Season 2, they are available through the Tools tab and include rock-paper-scissors, a toy spinner, and toy voting sticks. At a recent guild event, we held a “Beat 00” rock-paper-scissors challenge, and I played against many people. I have to give devCAT credit for adding these charming toys. They made me feel like a child again, which I loved.

- In Summary

If you enjoy customizing characters and relatively easy, progression-focused RPGs with cute, charming graphics, I highly recommend Mabinogi Mobile. It is an ideal game to play with a friend!

In closing, sharing these experiences is what makes them stand out and turns them into memories worth cherishing. For me, games have become more than something to play: they are a place to spend time with someone I care about. I believe the real joy of gaming lies in that time together and the memories we make along the way. That is why I wanted to share these recommendations for two.
