Participating in the Nexon PEAK Post Challenge

After spending enough time with MMORPGs, you eventually hit a point where you open your search bar more often than the game itself.
That is simply the nature of the genre: for gear setups, item sources, and class guides,
checking outside websites becomes second nature.
But Mabinogi Mobile feels a little different.
When I need to look something up, I usually check whether I can find the answer in-game first
instead of heading straight to the internet.
Even on the day a major update lands, the first thing I open is the Codex.
📖 The Codex for runes and fashion

Whenever a major update arrives, the first thing I check is the new runes.

The Codex neatly organizes weapon, armor, accessory, and emblem runes in one place,
and it even lets you check the effects of runes you have not obtained yet.
Accessory runes can be browsed by class, while the others are sorted by grade,
so finding the information you want is straightforward.

Reading through the effects of new runes, checking whether any of them suit my class,
and planning what kind of build to aim for next is a surprisingly enjoyable part of the process.

The fashion Codex is another feature I use often.
It lets you check every outfit, including ones that are no longer obtainable,
and reading the item descriptions even gives you a small glimpse into the worldbuilding of Mabinogi.

More recently, a feature was added that lets you preview outfits directly on your character,
which adds a nice little bit of fun when trying on outfits you are waiting to see return.
🧭 Item acquisition info and Quick Navi

When I need crafting materials or quest items, the How to Obtain feature is the one I use most often.
If you open an item's information and tap How to Obtain,
you can immediately see available sources such as gathering, hunting grounds, dungeons, and the marketplace.
For items obtained through gathering or dungeons, you can also move there directly with Quick Navi,
so there is very little need to search elsewhere.

Since the game supports cross-play on mobile devices as well,
it is often more convenient to log in while I am out and check the Codex or item information there.
It is much faster than jumping between multiple sites to look up guides online.
⚒ Class-specific recommendation features

There are also recommendation features designed to help with class progression.
For skill specialization, if you turn on the Specialization Recommendation toggle in the specialization tab at the blacksmith or weapon shop NPC,
the game automatically selects specialization skills that fit your class.
Gem crafting works similarly through the bank NPC via the gem tag change tab,
and the Recommended Tags option lets you check which gem tags suit your class.

Of course, this feature does not cover every situation.
In some cases, the skills you should specialize change depending on the accessory runes you use,
but that is not currently reflected.
For example, if a Bard is using the accessory rune Ambush,
specializing skill 5, Play Dead, is more efficient,
but the recommendation feature instead tells you to specialize skill 1, String Shot, based on the default setup.
🤔 A few areas that could use further improvement
The system is very convenient overall, but there are still a few areas where I think it could be improved.

The rune Codex and the Remembered Runes section in the character menu are quite similar in function,
so I think it would be worth considering merging them into one.

I would also like the How to Obtain information for items to be a bit more detailed.
For example, it tells you that obtaining 'Hard Log' requires Woodcutting,
but it does not show which type of tree you need to cut.
I do still check external communities or guide sites at times,
but in regular play, I end up finding the information I need inside the game much more often.
Checking new runes in the Codex, looking up item sources,
and even using the recommendation features to map out progression mostly all happen in-game.
Instead of closing the game just to look something up, you can decide on your next goal right there and keep playing.
To me, that is the biggest strength of Mabinogi Mobile's information system.
