Taking part in the Nexon PEAK Post Challenge
When you think of bosses, what’s the first thing that pops into your head?
For me, it’s the sense of achievement, easy.
That feeling when you finally clear a boss is seriously huge.
Especially in MapleStory and Lost Ark!!
In both games, it’s not enough to just pump up your character specs
and call it done—you’ve gotta learn the patterns, nail the timing,
and after failing a bunch of times, the rush that hits when you clear is just different.
And when the boss HP is down to basically nothing
but the timer runs out, you end up shouting, “Nah seriously, this is the last try,”
and then keep queueing up anyway, right? And if you clutch the clear with a 딱코 finish—
that’s a full-on 돼지 파티 day.
It feels like all the time you sank in and all that control practice finally pays you back in one shot.
So in this post, I want to talk a bit about why I picked Maple and Lost Ark
as games where clearing bosses gives you that massive sense of achievement.
ⅠTable of ContentsⅠ
① Why clearing bosses feels so rewarding
② Boss fights in Maple and Lost Ark
1. Why Clearing Bosses Feels So Rewarding
- Repeating failure, then getting the payoff
I think boss clears feel so insanely satisfying
because there’s usually an endless pile of failures
stacked up before that one clear.
At first, forget learning patterns—you’re not even sure
when you’re supposed to dodge and when it’s actually time to deal damage, right?
But if you keep challenging it,
you start seeing it.
Oh! Is it now?!
└ Yep
The orb should be coming out soon..
└ Then a few seconds later the orb actually comes out

└ This guy’s flying phase genuinely sends my blood pressure to the moon..
Once the patterns start becoming visible like this,
and you get past the part where you kept seeing Ms. Yudahee over and over,
and when that still isn’t enough, you upgrade your gear,
keep the tries rolling,
and slowly shave down the boss’s HP,
and then, 마참내, you get the clear.
And at that moment,
“ I finally cracked the pattern!!!
Or
Wow, my character really got stronger!!! ”
I feel like both of those emotions hit at the same time.
2. Why Clearing Bosses Feels So Rewarding
2.1 - MapleStory
“ Boss fights where you can really see your character growth pay off ”
Especially in Maple, I think boss fights are one of the clearest pieces of content
for showing the results of all the money and time
you put into raising your character.

└ For me, Suu was one of those big walls I had to climb
Even bosses that felt impossible at first
eventually become solo-clearable
once you level up, swap gear around, and raise your specs—
stuff you used to need an n-person party for
suddenly becomes a 1-person clear.
Back then I was busy just trying to survive the patterns,
but little by little, my clear times got shorter,
and I got to start challenging the next tier of bosses—
that whole process felt really satisfying.
Of course, there are still plenty of boss fights waiting for me
that need higher-level party clears..ㅠ
And Maple’s boss clear rewards are super straightforward too,
so that “I did it myself” feeling sticks even harder.
2.2 - Lost Ark
“ Boss fights where you learn patterns and solve them with your team ”
On the other hand, Lost Ark gave me
a slightly different kind of satisfaction from MapleStory.
└ And yes, I used past tense because.. now solo clears are possible too..;ㅎ
With Lost Ark, learning the patterns and syncing up with your party
made the fun of clearing feel even bigger.

└ Seriously, my first time progging this one was actual human hell…
Of course, you also get to meet all kinds of human specimens.
Like someone dies and then blames the healer..
or they don’t pick up the heal orbs and then complain they didn’t get healed,
or you’ve been stuck progging for 7 hours straight because of them,
and then they suddenly say they need sleep and just bail during Act 3
When you first start trying Legion Commander raids,
you’re tracking gimmicks, ground patterns, poop, and party member positions,
so your brain is just fully overloaded.
Ah, well, only the healer really needs to track party positions.
└ I was the healer. ^^

└ This one was only 4 people, so at least we could actually get our timing together..
After enough tries,
“Go 9 o’clock here”
“Push forward toward 12 o’clock”
“Damage window after this pattern”
stuff like that starts clicking one by one, you know?
But.. what if the party just can’t get in sync..?
Then you can do Cho Shasa 20 times and clear only Acts 1~2 of the boss, and still spend
9 whole hours on nothing but tries.
└ I have personally experienced this hell!!
That’s why clearing bosses in Lost Ark
felt less like just steamrolling with specs
and more like finally getting the clear
after failing over and over until it was burned into your hands.
3. Final Conclusion
“ In the end, the fun of clearing a boss doesn’t come from one single success,
it hits way harder when that success comes after countless challenges and failures. ”
What boss fight has stuck with you the most?
For me, the first Ka... whatever-it-was from Grand Chase comes to mind too
Anyway, that’s it for this post.
I’ll be back next time with another story (๑>•̀๑)
