[PEAK Challenge] We wanted to beat the Mabinogi Succubus Raid together

Currently [participating in the Nexon PEAK Post Challenge].

The Succubus is one of the major figures in Mabinogi. Back in Mabinogi Online, she was someone you could only meet by soloing Rabbie Dungeon on a male character, and in Mabinogi Mobile, she’s a raid boss. So when the Succubus Raid was added, my friends and I were hyped. The Succubus was finally here as a raid! We jumped in right away.

But the Succubus was not easy at all. At the time, our classes were Pyromancer, Warrior, Swordsman, and Dual Blade. Our comp had no healer, which definitely made things shaky, but we had guts, so we challenged it anyway—and got wiped fast. We didn’t have the combat power to clear it right after release, and having no healer was part of the reason. Even so, the four of us really wanted to beat the Succubus Raid together.

So we started learning the mechanics one by one. The roses, getting suddenly pulled into a dream, all of that. We talked things out together, searched up what we could, and each brought elixirs, bandages, and the best potions we had. We died a lot. Sometimes all four of us went down. Sometimes we failed the dream mechanic, the black Succubus descended, and that was the end. Sometimes we even ran out of revives. But still... we cleared it.

Break, break, break!

The biggest key to the Succubus fight was Break. If you didn’t succeed before a certain amount of time passed, you simply couldn’t clear the raid. We decided Pyromancer and Warrior would be Team 1, while Swordsman and Dual Blade would handle Team 2.

Since the rose usually flew first toward the ranged Pyromancer, Team 2 moved away from the Succubus, and the Warrior ran over to me. Once we got pulled inside like that, the Warrior and I threw Flame Grenades and attacked as much as possible with skills that had the Interfere tag, trying to force a Break on the Succubus inside.

Outside, Team 2—the Swordsman and my Dual Blade friend—worked hard to quickly take down the shadows on both sides of the Succubus. The faster they killed those shadows, the easier it was for Team 1 on the inside to land Break on the inner Succubus.

Then, once Team 1 succeeded in Breaking the inner Succubus, we had to come back out, and all four of us had to apply Break to the Succubus outside too, to stop the twin Succubi from descending. The whole gimmick of the Succubus Raid started with Break and ended with Break.

Choosing the best pairings

That’s why it really mattered to plan carefully which two people would go in together. Each class had its own strengths and weaknesses. Pyromancer was great at dealing with multiple enemies, but its Break power was average at best. Warrior was one of the best classes for applying Break. Swordsman and Dual Blade were better than Pyromancer at Break, but still behind Warrior. So we split up as Pyromancer + Warrior for Team 1, and Swordsman + Dual Blade for Team 2.

Bring everything you can possibly prepare

Each of us stocked up on the highest-grade potions and bandages we could use. To strengthen Smash and Combo attacks, we also prepared Advanced Mixed Enhancement Elixirs (Landslide). Out of all the grenade options, we each brought Flame Grenades too, since they raised the Break value the most. To maximize our food buffs, we first ate food that restored our ultimate, then followed it up with food that raised attack and defense.

We gathered gold through daily chores and weekly chores, then ran hunting grounds and dungeons to upgrade our gear. We also upgraded our runes and thought hard about rune combinations that would make Break easier against the Succubus or let us push higher damage. Since the other three classes besides Warrior weren’t exactly tanky, we also spent time figuring out how to survive longer.

What was left? Practice, practice, practice!

After that, what we needed was practice. We had our Team 1 and Team 2 setup, but it still took practice for each pair to move in cleanly and in sync, and we had to match up well enough to land Break quickly once inside. If the rose flying toward its target clipped another teammate on the way, that teammate would get dragged in instead, so everyone had to know their movement perfectly.

We worked out things like when to throw grenades and when to use our ultimates to clear the shadows quickly. Since each of us had different skills, we also decided which direction each person should move. For example, the Swordsman’s ultimate dealt damage in a long rectangular area, so when clearing shadows, we adjusted things so both shadows could be caught in that range at once. Pyromancer’s ultimate also fired in a straight line, so it took on the same role.

While Break was being applied to the Succubus inside, we also had to keep the Succubus outside from attacking the players within. So our other members—the Dual Blade and the Warrior—handled the job of luring and pinning down the outer Succubus, protecting the inner team so her purple flowers and poison fields wouldn’t reach them.

At last, a success (through tears)

The day we cleared the Succubus Raid for the first time was such a thrill. We finally got her—we really did, and without changing our classes. Of course, it took a lot of attempts, a lot of potions, and a lot of elixirs to beat the Succubus, but in the end, we finally made it. Along the way, our combat power had also gone up a lot. We had all done plenty of enhancement just for this fight.

The reward we got for defeating the Succubus wasn’t all that huge compared to everything we had invested. But the rush of that first clear is still vivid even now. Wow, we got her. We finally got her. We did it! Clearing the Succubus Raid while all four of us talked on Discord and kept adjusting our prep as we went gave us an absolutely massive dopamine rush.

I should’ve taken it with the Succubus statue showing ㅠㅠ

Conclusion

Now, the Succubus Raid has become one of those routine chores we can clear without much trouble. But even now, we still remember how fiercely we put our heads together, planned things out, and got ready for the Succubus. There’s something really fun about studying mechanics, learning through trial and error, and talking it all through together—and those moments leave behind the clearest memories. And when the next challenge comes, we enjoy that too.
