If you’ve been playing Mabinogi for a long time, you’ve probably heard this story at least once....

Today, I’m going to see for myself how that famous creepy tale from PC Mabinogi

was hidden in mobile as an easter egg...

The 2004 Ciar Dungeon Incident

Back in Mabinogi’s 2004 open beta,

rumors started going around that two unidentified characters would appear near the entrance to Ciar Dungeon.

A red-haired character in beginner clothes and a purple-haired girl

were said to be standing overlapped beyond the wall, just staring at players....

What made it even creepier was that not everyone could see them—only some players could.

Back then, rumors even spread like, “If you target them, they’ll follow you,” and “You get sucked into the wall and your items disappear”!

Of course none of that was true, but that just shows how intensely this incident stuck in players’ heads!

But yep, this actually made it into mobile Mabinogi as an easter egg,

and if you meet the right conditions, you can go see it yourself, so

I tried tracking it down myself using the method a bunch of players shared!

👻How to Encounter Them👻

👻Ciar Dungeon Normal, Floor 1 Area 3

*You have to go on Normal difficulty!

I even tried Very Hard, but I couldn’t find them there!

👻Turn off Random Encounter and enter solo

👻Go when the in-game time is fully pitch-black night (not dusk—like, actually dark night!)

👻Keep running the dungeon until the Cat Merchant shows up...?

If you open the door to the room right before the boss room, the Cat Merchant and a campfire are always there....

But if the fire is out, those two characters are sitting there!!

Seeing a young female character and an adult male character sitting side by side actually startled me,

and you can really tell they recreated that old scene,

just staring at the campfire with blank expressions.

And when I tried to sit with them,

the second I lit the fire, they disappeared....👻

I honestly think it’s such a perfect touch that a creepy story from over 20 years ago

is still alive in mobile as an easter egg.

For longtime Mabinogi players, it’s nostalgia overload, and for newer players, it’s a hidden little thrill that gives you chills!

If you still haven’t seen it, I really recommend going to check it out at least once.
