I’m currently participating in the [Nexon PEAK Post Challenge].
We can’t be together every moment. Time with other people is obviously fun and happy, but everyone needs time alone too. So I started thinking about a game you can enjoy slowly at your own pace, an MMORPG that still feels satisfying solo, and those moments that actually stick with you more because you experienced them alone. And honestly, that matters. If someone is good at building relationships, maybe part of that is being able to leave themselves fully alone sometimes too. Anyway, let’s start the song. Ggeo~ya! Ggeo~ya! Hal!Ggeo~ya! Even a~lone~! I’ll do just fine! (You can probably guess my age.)

A Main Story That’s Great Even Solo
Mabinogi Mobile is a game you can enjoy on your own. Sure, there are parts that are more fun with other people, but when you need a little time to yourself, it has the systems and content to let you focus on your own play just fine. For example, in the old Mabinogi Online (hereafter the original Mabi), if you wanted to play an RP dungeon where you directly took part in the story, you had to meet the party-size requirement, no exceptions. Even to defeat Glas Ghaibhleann, the final boss of G1, you had to form a party of three including yourself in order to continue the main story.

But in Mabinogi Mobile, think back to the memory dungeons for Tarlach, Mari, and Ruairi. You can move through the story perfectly well by yourself. In the original Mabi, stopping Glas Ghaibhleann meant going in with a party made up of yourself and other players, alongside the legendary three heroes, but in Mabinogi Mobile the story structure has changed, so you proceed with Tarlach and Nao instead. To be fair, that older method—where you could only continue by forming a three-player party including yourself—was interesting and fun in its own way. But unlike back then, when doing everything manually step by step was just the norm, players now often have less time to spare or play across different devices, so this feels like a natural change: a version of the game that lets you keep going solo whenever you want.

Why Solo Play Felt So Comfortable
Playing together comes with time constraints. Speaking personally—and very honestly—it’s not like my teens anymore, when I could throw more of myself into play. My friends and I are now in our late 30s, and lining up our schedules is not easy. That’s why I prefer games that still work well solo, but become even more fun when you do play together. Solo play feels comfortable because I can play when I want, when I’m available, without having to work around anyone else. Being with other people takes energy too, after all. When I’m alone, I can spend all of that energy just enjoying the game itself.

Mabinogi Mobile in particular has a matching system called "Chance Encounter." It’s one of the key systems that makes dungeons, raids, and the Abyss approachable even when you’re basically playing solo. Unlike the old days, when playing alone meant you personally had to fight every monster yourself, this system matches you with other players trying to run the same dungeon at the same time so you can clear it together. For people who prefer the general feel of playing “alone,” it’s genuinely convenient. If you really do want to run something completely solo, you can set it that way. But if you don’t especially want to join up, socialize, or actively form a party, and you still need party play, then Chance Encounter lets both sides meet that practical need and move on.
Memorable Moments While Playing Alone
When you play alone, the biggest advantage is story immersion. When you’re progressing with other people and a cutscene starts, the unspoken rule of courtesy is to skip it quickly. But when you’re alone, you can watch that scene—or take in the story—at your own pace. Some players like watching the story properly, while others naturally want to skip it and move ahead as fast as possible. In that sense, there are times when I deliberately enter a raid alone just to watch the pre-raid cutscene. Even if I can’t clear the raid, I still feel too guilty to sit there watching the opening video while other players are waiting on me.

It also stays with me more because I can focus more fully while going through the main story. Whether I’m listening closely to each exchange between Ruairi and Triana or watching a fast-paced battle scene, I can give the scene my full attention. Because of that, every time I progress the main story, it leaves a real afterglow. Chapter 5, Advent of the Goddess: Light and Darkness, was the same. It even gave me room to think about the awakening conditions for Dark Knight and Paladin. If Paladin is “sacrifice,” then maybe Dark Knight is “protection.” And if Nao exists now, and before that there were the legendary three heroes, and before that Miorus was betrayed, and before that Mari was born... then seriously, how old is Miorus supposed to be? I like that the game gives you space to think about things from so many angles.
Conclusion
Isn’t the ideal just a game that’s fun whether you play alone or together? Some games are meant to be solo, and some only really work when played with others. Reverse: 1999 lets you borrow a friend’s character, but at its core it’s a solo turn-based story game, while World of Warcraft is a cooperative game where you have to form a party and do your role properly to keep progressing. But Mabinogi Mobile really does show signs of having thought this through from multiple angles, so that it’s fully enjoyable solo and even better together. Chance Encounter, the party system, and even a range of side activities players can enjoy with each other beyond just progression or production content. You can take photos with friends in beautiful places, or head to a scenic spot alone and take your own pictures there too. So... won’t you join us? What, am I trying to lure you in? Yes. Yes, I am. Hurry up and come already.
