[PEAK Challenge] PC online games where voice chat became common

Participating in the Nexon PEAK Post Challenge

Back in the 2000s, player communication was mainly handled through in-game chat,

and early on, because games generally did not demand a high level of difficulty, voice chat was not especially active.

As more games were released and real-time feedback became more important, voice chat started to become necessary,

Sudden Attack, for example, relied heavily on it because telling teammates the enemy's position and HP could improve the team's chances of winning.

Voice chat was used quite frequently.

At the time, Skype and Talkon were widely used, and in RPGs as well as FPS games,

voice chat was also common in World of Warcraft(WOW).

Discord, currently the most widely used program, or “Dico”

At this point, it is basically an essential program for gamers.

It is used the most because of its strengths in call quality, convenience, and overall versatility.

More recently, since some games also support built-in voice chat, people sometimes play without Discord.

In this way, methods of communication between players have continued to change,

developing in the sequence of in-game chat → voice chat through external programs → in-game voice chat.

Looking ahead, if VR features become more widespread, there may be another shift.
