[PEAK Challenge] FC Online, a low-barrier game for returning players: why it still feels easy to come back to after a long break
[Participating in the Nexon PEAK Post Challenge]
When you try to get back into a game after a long time away,
it can be surprisingly hard to actually start again.
Even if it is a game you used to enjoy,
if too many updates have piled up,
or if a lot of new content has been added,
it can feel exhausting before you even begin.
I also stepped away from FC Online for a while,
and when I recently logged back in,
the barrier to returning felt lower than I expected.
That is why, for this week’s topic,
#복귀장벽낮은게임 felt like a good fit
for FC Online.
The biggest strength of FC Online, to me,
is that you do not have to relearn everything from the ground up.
Of course, there are more player seasons now,
market prices keep changing,
and parts of the tactics and team color systems are different from before.
But at its core, it is still football.
The basic rhythm of
passing, making runs, defending, and shooting
is still the same,
so even if you log in after a long break, it is fairly easy to get your feel back.
Rather than feeling like an RPG where you have to
relearn gear systems or quest routes from scratch,
it is closer to playing a match or two first
and getting used to it again through play.
For returning players, that is a major advantage.
FC Online is especially good in that
it gives returning players plenty of events they can benefit from right away.
When I come back after a long break,
instead of starting with player signings or squad changes,
I usually check the event page first.
Right after returning, it is often unclear where to spend BP,
and it is easy to be unsure which players are considered good now.
At that point, rather than overhauling your team too quickly,
it is much more efficient to work through
attendance events, play events, and new/returning user benefits first.
The most basic one is the attendance reward.
FC Online often runs events that count just from logging in,
so if you are a returning player, it is a good idea to leave at least one login record each day.
On PC, you often have to go all the way to the team selection screen
for the login to count properly,
while on mobile, it often only counts
after entering the lobby and staying there for a set amount of time.
So I try not to just look at the login screen and close the game,
but to make sure I actually enter the lobby or team selection screen,
then check the event page to confirm that it counted.
Because of this small difference,
it is surprisingly easy to miss a day of attendance.
The second is play events.
If you are a returning player, rather than jumping straight into official matches too aggressively,
it is better to check the event conditions first.
Some events split rewards by number of matches played,
such as 1, 3, or 5 matches.
In those cases, even on days when you do not have much time,
it feels much less burdensome if you aim to complete at least one match.
When I was in the early stage of returning,
I found it helpful to start lightly with a mindset like,
“Today, I will just play 1 to 3 matches and get my feel back.”
If you get too ambitious about climbing the ranks right away,
it can end up creating more stress than anything else.
But if event rewards are your goal,
even a loss does not feel like a complete waste.
The third is checking new and returning user benefits.
If you are coming back after a long time,
you should not only look at the regular events,
but also make sure to check whether there are exclusive benefits for new or returning club owners.
Sometimes there are separate rewards for people starting again,
such as a returning-user attendance board,
rental squads, guide missions, or PC bang login missions.
These benefits are often more directly useful
to returning players than to existing users.
In particular, if your squad is outdated
and far from the current meta,
rental squads or reward player packs
can be very helpful when you are adjusting in the early stages.
This is something I notice every time I return:
if I go straight into official matches with my old squad,
the difference in feel can be immediate.
In that situation, if you collect the returning-user benefits first,
you can at least give yourself time to regain your rhythm.
The fourth is app attendance or linked events.
FC Online is a PC game,
but sometimes app attendance events through
FC Online M or FC LOUNGE run alongside it.
These events often let you earn rewards
just by checking in every day, regardless of how well you play,
so they are not very demanding for returning players.
I especially recommend these in the early stage of returning.
That is because when you come back after a long break,
you need time to get used to the game again
rather than forcing yourself to play a lot of matches.
In the meantime, if you collect app attendance and login rewards,
you naturally start getting comfortable with the game again.
The fifth is checking where rewards are actually claimed.
Just because you participated in an event
does not mean the reward is automatically added to your squad or currency right away.
Sometimes rewards are sent to your inbox,
and sometimes you have to press the claim button directly on the event page.
Returning players can easily miss this part.
I have also had times in the past when I joined an event
but did not claim the reward and ended up missing it.
So these days, whenever I do an event,
I check the participation conditions, the reward claim button,
and the in-game inbox all at once.
Just checking those three things
greatly reduces the rewards you miss.
The sixth is PC bang events.
FC Online sometimes runs Nexon Premium PC bang events
alongside its regular events,
so if you happen to be playing at a PC bang,
it is worth checking the event conditions.
Of course, there is no need to force yourself to go just for that,
but if you are already planning to play a few matches at a PC bang with a friend,
it is a good idea to use that time to also collect
PC bang login missions or cumulative time rewards.
From a returning player’s perspective,
if you get extra rewards for the same amount of playtime,
the benefit feels much more noticeable.
The reason FC Online feels like a game with a low barrier for returning players
is not simply that the controls are familiar.
A major part of it is that,
for players coming back after a long time,
there is already a clear starting path through
attendance, play events, returning-user benefits, and guide missions,
so you can tell what to do first.
You do not need to buy expensive players from the start
or build a perfect squad right away.
You can begin by collecting login rewards,
following the play events,
checking your team through returning-user benefits,
and slowly getting your feel back.
This approach felt the least burdensome to me.
If, the moment you return,
you try to solve everything at once—
“Which meta players are good these days?”
“What tactics should I use?”
“Where should I spend BP?”
—you get tired very quickly.
It is much easier to decide what to do each day
around event rewards.
Today, I will just log in.
Tomorrow, I will only play 3 matches.
On the weekend, I will sort out my squad using the rewards I collected.
If you approach it this way,
the game does not feel overwhelming even after a long break.
FC Online offers the fun of each match,
the fun of building your squad,
and the fun of collecting event rewards.
Especially for returning players,
simply using those events well
can greatly lower the barrier to getting back into the game.
That is why I think FC Online is a very solid option
for anyone who wants to start playing again after a long break.
You do not need to make it complicated.
Just log in first,
check the event page,
and start by collecting attendance and play rewards.
After doing that for just a few days,
your old feel gradually starts to come back,
and you also begin to see how your team should be adjusted.
To me, FC Online was
a game that still gives you room to readjust even after a long break,
and a game where following the events
naturally helps you find your footing again.
So for this week’s topic,
I wanted to introduce FC Online as a game that fits well with
