Challengers World Season 4 Character Recommendations

Hey there.

It’s Mapo Gamtwig.

With MapleStory Challengers Season 4 coming up,

you’re probably spending way too long wondering what character to play, right?

So let me recommend a few classes!!

Veterans, returning players (Union 9,000+)

You all... can probably handle this just fine on your own anyway, right?

But since you came all the way here, I’ll go ahead and recommend the new class, ‘Lete.’

I think it’d be really fun to experience that feeling of carving out a new path with a brand-new character.

New players, returning players (no Union)

Before the class recommendations!! Cash item storage isn’t locked by race anymore, so you don’t need to worry about that now.

For anyone just starting MapleStory, I’ll quickly go over a few classes I can recommend and what makes them good.

Bowmaster (Explorer Archer): solid utility, low difficulty, decent performance

Len (Anima Warrior): low difficulty, decent performance, can teleport forward/backward, has a rapid-fire skill, can use up-jump during burst

IL Mage (Explorer Mage): teleport, low difficulty, solid performance

*Bishop (Explorer Mage): teleport, synergy class, only consider it if you have friends you’ll be playing with regularly

Out of these, I really, really recommend Len!!

So for beginners like me, here’s a Len guide plus a few handy tips.

Len - Union, Link Skills, Spirit’s Blessing, Empress’s Blessing

If you’re starting on the challenge server, you don’t need to rush these right away.

That said!! Even on the challenge server, you can still benefit from ‘Empress’s Blessing,’

so if you get a Cygnus character to level 120, you can squeeze out a little more stats.

If even getting a Cygnus to 120 feels like a pain, just creating a Zero is another option.

Skill leveling order up to 4th job

With the showcase update, skills get auto-assigned now, so the leveling order probably doesn’t matter much anymore,

so I’ll just briefly explain how the skills work.

Mobbing skills

Main mobbing skills (4th job) - Plum Blossom Sword Basic Form: Seoncham, Plum Blossom Sword 3rd Form: Yein

Seoncham is a rapid-fire skill that keeps attacking while you hold it down,

and Yein is a placement skill.

If you directly hit enemies with Plum Blossom Sword Basic Form,

Forgotten Soul Sword Basic Form and Plum Blossom Sword 2nd Form: Swaemae will activate, sending out extra projectiles.

You can see the plum blossom-shaped effects popping up here and there, plus those black sword-slash effects going swoosh, right?

Those are Swaemae and Forgotten Soul Sword.

Yein is a placement skill where a circular sword aura moves back and forth while attacking monsters.

But!! If you used Yein and it didn’t do this, and instead just disappeared without going back and forth?

Then you need to use the 4th job skill ‘Odo’ to switch the setting.

The left one is Yein, and the right one is One-Strike Yein.

Bossing skills

Sustained DPS - Plum Blossom Sword Basic Form: Seoncham

Burst buffs - Seunghwa, Plum Blossom Sword Secret Technique: Manrihyang

Burst skills - Forgotten Soul Descent (key-down, 3rd job), One-Strike Yein (4th job), Plum Blossom Sword Secret Technique: Seommu (key-down, 5th job)

For burst, you pop your burst buffs first and then use these skills.

As you can see, if you want to get the most damage possible during burst, you need to build 65 Bloom stacks and trigger Heavenly Crow of Forgotten Soul Awakening 90 times.

For the sequence, use Seunghwa, Manrihyang, and Forgotten Soul Awakening,

then use One-Strike Yein, and while holding down Seommu, press Forgotten Soul Descent too.

That said... sometimes if you’re holding Seommu, the Forgotten Soul Descent input gets eaten,

so when I burst, I personally just mash Forgotten Soul Descent while holding Seommu.

You can use Origin once Seommu is fully finished.

The image is a little small, so it might be hard to see,

but on the icons at the lower left, in the bottom-right corner of the Manrihyang and Forgotten Soul Awakening icons,

you’ll see the counters ticking down.

You just keep smacking the boss until those are fully used up.

Len’s burst is compressed really well,

so on a 2-minute cycle, if you use bind and position properly, it’s not that hard to get your full damage out.

Utility skills

It’s already a great burst class, and yep, it still has more going for it.

1) It has an extra bind. - Plum Blossom Sword 5th Form: Heavenly Plum Earth Binding

On top of the shared skill Erda Nova, it also gets another bind in its Hyper Skills.

2) Invincibility skill

It has a pretty standard iframe: 3 seconds of invincibility on a 70-second cooldown.

3) Forward/backward teleport

This skill teleports you once forward and once backward.

Unsheathe - move forward

Sheathe - move backward

You can use it in the air too.

This is especially useful in boss fights,

and using Will as an example,

for patterns where you need to move with White Eyes like this, you can easily zip back and forth,

or during Will’s front leg attack (knockback), you can move back and forth and keep dealing damage comfortably.

4) Ascent invincibility: while other people use it 3 times, you can use it 9 times

Len’s Ascent skill works on a mechanic where it’s split into 3 separate parts.

You use it in the order Nakhwa - Jincheon - Cheongang, and your use count is consumed either when you use all three, or when you don’t recast the next skill.

When you use the skill, the icon for the next stage appears,

and if you don’t use it before that orange reuse window runs out,

or if you go all the way through the 3rd skill, one use gets consumed.

So, what do you think?

If you want easy burst and a ton of utility,

I definitely recommend running this challenge server with Len!
