Lately, I've been playing on a popular MapleStory Worlds server,

메이플 플래닛, every day.

Recently, I teamed up with friends to complete

several quests from old-school MapleStory.

One that stood out involved defeating the boss monster Faust:

the Forest of Evil quest.

Here's a detailed walkthrough, along with my thoughts on the experience.

The Forest of Evil Quest

You can accept the Forest of Evil quest once you reach level 50

by visiting Arwen the Fairy in Ellinia.

You can only work on this quest between 5 PM and 7 AM,

so if you're outside that window, you'll need to come back later.

Arwen has been attacked by a giant monkey

and is furious, insisting that Grendel the Really Old is responsible.

When you visit Grendel the Really Old, he shares a surprising story.

In the past, he was drawn to dark magic

and created monsters such as Zombie Lupin.

He asks you to visit Fanzy in the forest north of Ellinia

to gather clues.

Fanzy asks you to defeat Malady

and bring back 10 nails used for curses.

Malady can be found in the Forest of Evil.

To get there, enter the hidden portal at the top of the Forest of Wisdom,

then keep heading right.

When you bring the nails back to Fanzy,

he tells you he's found a way to the Cursed Forest.

To reach the Cursed Forest, head to the Forest of Evil 1

and enter the hidden portal in the upper-right corner.

There, you'll find 리프, a pupil of Grendel the Really Old.

He once wanted to befriend Arwen,

but couldn't overcome her hatred of humans.

In the end, he foolishly sought revenge by casting a curse,

which led him to create Faust.

For reasons that aren't clear, he then has a change of heart

and asks you to pass along an apology to Arwen.

Arwen is angry at first,

but eventually asks you to take a strand of fairy hair to 리프.

리프 accepts the apology

and asks you to tell Grendel the Really Old that he's sorry.

Grendel the Really Old asks you to defeat Faust, a creature born of a curse

that he sees as essentially his own creation.

Faust's Location

In old-school MapleStory, Faust was a field boss that spawned

at random every few hours in the Forest of Evil 1 and 2.

In 메이플 플래닛, however,

he only appears in the Forest of Evil 1.

One of my friends didn't know this

and, relying on information about old-school MapleStory, said Faust also appeared in Forest 2,

so we all ended up wasting about 20 minutes.

Since this isn't an official server,

it's worth remembering that some details may differ.

Bosses in 메이플 플래닛 appear after a wait of about 2 minutes,

but they won't appear if they've already been defeated. In that case, switch channels

and wait another 2 minutes or so.

Still, with everyone chatting

and enjoying the game together, it didn't feel like time wasted.

With RPGs, the gameplay matters, of course,

but I think chatting in a small group like this

is an even bigger part of the fun.

Afterward, we went party hunting on the Path of Time

and worked hard on leveling up.

Even ordinary grinding is fun with a group!
