With summer just around the corner, the weather has gotten pretty hot.
Every year, there’s one thing I always worry about in summer: device heat!
As the temperature rises, smartphones and PCs tend to overheat even more easily.
If you don’t stay on top of heat management, your games can start lagging badly,
and it can even shorten the lifespan of your devices.
So today, to help you enjoy long gaming sessions comfortably even on hot and humid summer days,
I’d like to share a few tips for preventing overheating!
1. Airflow comes first! Help your device breathe with a stand & cooling pad

You’re not gaming with your PC or gaming laptop pressed flat against the floor, right?
If the vents on the bottom and sides are blocked, heat gets trapped and the device heats up in no time.

When using a laptop or tablet, it’s best to use a dedicated stand
so there’s some space between the device and the surface underneath.
And if you add a cooling pad too, even better!
Keeping cool air circulating smoothly is the foundation of heat prevention.
2. A must-have for mobile gamers: dedicated smartphone/tablet coolers

These days, plenty of people are enjoying high-spec games on mobile too, right?
I also play demanding games on my gaming tablet or smartphone quite often.
To cool down devices that get as hot as hand warmers, it’s a good idea to use a dedicated cooler.
There are a lot of great coolers out on the market these days.
Even adding just one can make gameplay much more comfortable, without the performance drops that come from overheating.
I haven’t picked one up yet, but I should definitely get one before it gets even hotter!
3. Painful but necessary... lower in-game graphics and cap your frame rate

Hardware solutions matter, but your software settings are just as important to check.
Flashy graphics and high frame rates look great, but they also put a heavy load on your device.
During the summer, I recommend lowering your in-game graphics settings by one step,
or capping your maximum frame rate at around 60Hz.
You may have to give up a little visual flair,
but it’s one of the most effective ways to cut down on device heat.
4. Giving your device enough rest matters too!

No matter how perfect your cooling setup is,
if you game in your room for hours on end, heat is going to build up.
It’s a good idea to keep the overall room temperature cool with an air conditioner or fan.
Most importantly, after 3~4 hours of play, turn the game off for about 10 minutes and let your device cool down as well.
During that break, have a glass of cold water
and give your eyes and wrists a rest too, so you can stay comfortable for longer!
In the peak of summer, I hope today’s tips help you protect your devices
and enjoy your games more comfortably.
I’ll be back next time with more useful gaming news and tips :)
