May 22 is the UN-designated International Day for Biological Diversity.

The day was established to raise awareness of biodiversity loss caused by climate, habitat destruction, overharvesting, and other factors.

With that in mind, let's take a moment to remember some bosses that still exist in MapleStory but, for various reasons, have been slipping out of memory.

Daily Bosses We Forget Because They're a Hassle(?)

Players were generating too much gold from boss crystal sales.. so our director made the call!!

The weekly sales cap means you can sell up to 90 crystals from daily and weekly bosses combined.

Personally, I can't be bothered to keep count.. so I stick to Arkarium and Pink Bean for my daily runs.

Let's start with a quick look at some of the daily bosses out there.

Zakum

There was a time when I fought him every day for the Chaos Zakum Helmet and a pretty generous amount of EXP.

But thanks(?) to our heroes getting far too strong, he's gradually become a boss we no longer bother with.

Balrog

This guy was once the very definition of power..

Now he's the very definition of cruelty, making you spend 3 minutes hitting him no matter how strong you are..

Even a hit from 어센틱 won't kill him.

He's faded so far into obscurity that I honestly wonder if anyone still fights him ㅜ

Hilla

As for Hilla—the regular one, not Verus Hilla—

I haven't paid her a visit in a while, since the rewards just aren't that tempting anymore.

The 4 Normal Root Abyss Bosses

There used to be a quest requiring you to defeat each one 10 times before you could challenge the Chaos Root Abyss bosses,

but that prerequisite is gone now, so there's little reason to fight them beyond farming trait items (if you can call something this inefficient farming).

Weekly Bosses We Forget Because of Their Rewards

At least there's room to sell a fairly large number of daily boss crystals,

but weekly boss crystals are capped at just 12, so you have to pick which bosses to run.

Even the so-called "solo everything below Black Mage" lineup already has more than 12 bosses.

Here are the bosses I think are the first to lose their place in those 12 slots.

Hilla

(Yes, it's the same screenshot)

Our dear Hilla was already losing her appeal as a daily boss..

And as a weekly boss, she's even less tempting..

Cygnus

Even the Empress can't get away with handing out level 140 equipment in this day and age.

Her rewards just don't keep up with today's MapleStory, which seems to make her one of the first bosses cut from those 12 slots.

Bosses That Have Truly Been Forgotten

These days, we enter boss fights through MapleStory's dedicated boss UI.

But MapleStory had quite a few "field bosses," too.

Let's take a look at some of those field bosses that are also fading from memory.

Mushmom

This is the impressively oversized boss monster that used to appear in Henesys.

You can still find her through the portal on the right side of Humming Forest Trail.

I used to think even Mushmom was incredibly strong.. now she's so far below us that we barely give her a second thought.

Snack Bar

This monster dropped all sorts of scrolls, making it a regular farming target.

Now that scrolls have more or less been consolidated into Spell Traces, it's fair to say the appeal isn't what it used to be.

You can find it through the portal at the 12 o'clock position in Cave Exit.

Crimson Balrog

It used to appear out of nowhere on the ship to Orbis and wipe out everyone on board.

Once a truly terrifying monster.. now a rare species you're lucky to even spot.

Mu Lung Dojo: Keeping Diversity Alive
