Taking a Look at MapleStory’s Endangered(?) Bosses
마포감튀

Hello.
This is MapoFries.
May 22 is the International Day for Biological Diversity, as designated by the UN.
It’s a day meant to raise awareness about biodiversity disappearing due to climate change, habitat destruction, overhunting, and more.
Maple has its own version of that too, so today, let’s take a moment to remember the bosses that still exist but have quietly been forgotten for one reason or another.
Daily bosses being forgotten because they’re a hassle(?)
Players were generating way too much gold by selling boss crystals... and then came the Director’s decision!!
Because of the weekly boss crystal sales cap, you can only sell up to 90 crystals total from daily and weekly bosses combined.
I’m too lazy to keep count myself... so for daily bosses, I only run Arkarium and Pink Bean.
Before that, though, let’s quickly look at who’s in the daily boss roster.
Zakum

There was a time when I killed Chaos Zakum every day for the helmet and the pretty nice chunk of EXP.
Now, thanks to heroes getting way too strong(?) he’s naturally become one of those bosses nobody really bothers with anymore.
Balrog

This guy used to be the symbol of raw power...
But now he’s basically the symbol of pure evil, since no matter how strong you are, you’re still forced to hit him for 3 full minutes...
He doesn’t even die to an Authentic hit, either.
He’s fading into obscurity so badly that I genuinely wonder whether anyone still kills him ㅜ
Hilla

As for regular Hilla, not Verus Hilla,
the rewards just aren’t very appealing anymore, so it’s been quite a while since I stopped going.
The 4 Normal Root Abyss bosses

There used to be a quest that required you to kill each of them 10 times before challenging the Chaos Root Abyss bosses,
but that prerequisite has been removed now, so aside from farming trait items (though the efficiency isn’t exactly amazing), they’ve pretty much become bosses with no real reason to run them.
Weekly bosses being forgotten because of rewards
Daily bosses at least give you a fairly large crystal sales allowance,
but weekly bosses are limited to just 12, so you have to choose which bosses you’re actually going to run.
Even in the so-called “below Black Mage solo” range, there are already more than 12 bosses now.
So, in my personal opinion, here are the bosses that get cut from that list of 12 the fastest.
Hilla

(same screenshot returns)
Our Hilla already lost a lot of appeal in the daily boss category...
As a weekly boss, she’s even less appealing...
Cygnus

No matter how much of a queen she is, handing out level 140 gear in this day and age just doesn’t fit the times.
Since the rewards don’t really match modern Maple, she seems to be one of the first bosses dropped from the list of 12.
Bosses that have truly been forgotten
These days in Maple, you usually enter bosses through the dedicated boss UI.
But Maple actually used to have quite a lot of “field bosses,” too.
So let’s also take a look at some field bosses that are gradually being forgotten.
Mushmom

This was the boss monster with the giant visual presence that used to show up around Henesys.

You can still meet her now if you enter the portal on the right side of Singing Mushroom Forest.
Back in the day, even Mushmom felt incredibly strong... now she’s dropped to the point where nobody really pays attention to her anymore.
Snack Bar

This was a monster people used to farm because it dropped all kinds of scrolls.
Now that Spell Traces have basically folded the scroll system together, it’s hard to say it still has the same appeal it used to.

You can find it by entering the portal at the 12 o’clock position in Cave Exit.
Crimson Balrog

Back then, this terror of a monster would suddenly appear while you were riding the ship to Orbis and wipe out everyone on board,
but now it’s become such a rare species that it’s hard to even see one.
Mu Lung Dojo, keeper of diversity
Can you think of any bosses besides the ones I covered today?
If so, why not go climb Mu Lung!!
Mu Lung Dojo has a wide variety of monsters placed on each floor.
You can get there through Maple Guide - Special Content - Mu Lung Dojo and give it a try.

Please use the table below as a reference for which boss appears on each floor!
If you can think of any other boss monsters that are fading into obscurity, let me know in the comments!
