Hello, I’m a big fan of Nexon games,
Jepamin!

International Day for Biological Diversity is an international observance established by the UN to raise awareness of and support for the conservation of species diversity, while also spreading global awareness of biodiversity loss and the climate crisis.
In MapleStory, we more or less have to hunt living creatures, but since monsters respawn every day, they seem to be doing pretty well conservation-wise. So for this post, I put together three simple encyclopedia-style entries on the kinds of creatures living and breathing across MapleStory!
Orange Mushroom

First up is MapleStory’s mascot, Orange Mushroom. In order, that’s Spore, Orange Mushroom, and Mushmom. If you play MapleStory regularly, you’ve probably seen them or hunted them at least once. They might be the most classic monster line in the whole game.

It’s so popular that there are plenty of monsters built as Orange Mushroom parodies too. From the altered Orange Mushrooms found in Desolate Henesys to the unusually designed Orange Mushrooms that only show up during events, there’s a surprising amount of variety here. This is absolutely the kind of species group that deserves a proper creature encyclopedia entry +_+
Stump

It may look cute at first glance, but Axe Stump actually has a sad backstory: a woodcutter drove an iron axe into it and left, and that bitterness eventually turned it into a monster. A pretty good reminder that we should all treat living things with care, right?!

I also added the rare species from Desolate Perion, ‘Altered Stump’ and ‘Altered Axe Stump’, to the encyclopedia. And of course, I included Stumpy too, which you could call the boss of the whole stump family.
Stumpy became a monster after sucking up the remaining moisture in desolated Perion, which makes it another good reminder that both living things and nature deserve care.
Seal

All right, after all that gloomy stuff, let’s finish with something cute. These are the adorable seals you can find in Aquarium. Little TMI here, but Aliar, which kind of looks like a seal(?), is not actually a seal.

They drop cute seal dolls and seal meat when defeated, but!! Don’t defeat them. Since this is in honor of International Day for Biological Diversity, let’s just look at them today and go, “aww, what a cute creature~”
And that wraps up [In Celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity] Maple Collection Roundup. Which monsters would you want to add to a creature encyclopedia? Thanks for reading!
